patrick, the animate attitude will certainly draw birds. I have one question. Are you thinning the area from bill thru eyes back to behind head too drastically? This may eventually cause thecrown of the head to check off after repeated handling, especially if decoys are picked up by heads at end of hunt? If you have provided internal protection, just ignore.. Pease get a shot of a group of those funkie stool out on the water!!! Stay busy, fella!

Not sure what you're asking, is it the eye channel? I start with 4" thick basswood, so the eye channel is about 1.5" thick. Hopefully it doesn't break, I'll find out soon enough, my chessie helps pick up the decoys at the end of the hunt, he hasn't broken one yet but you never know

The "moderate drought" in our area has kept Trout Lookin not up to par. So I'm keepin' busy in Da Shop working on a few decoys until things improve.

Working on some 72s and some decoys unlimited field decoys . Most of the birds are done as a favor for a hunting buddy. on the bench is my paint wheel that acts as a lazy susan so i don't have to get up and move birds around. That's Ranger keeping me company.

VERY nice! Your Scallop shell base is a fine match. Just got back from Finland. Most Terns we saw were probably Commons - but I was scrutinizing the bills and wings hoping for its northern cousin.

Lots of on-going projects - farm, house, camp - but also duckboats and decoys.


This dozen Beans - mostly Coastal but a few Deluxe Oversize - include Mallards, Pintails and Blacks. The bodies have been filled and surfaced - but many need the Oh-so-common - and tedious - tail insert repairs....






I prefer to remove heads whenever I can. Sometimes, though, I may do more damage than good. These heads have been repaired; some have new eyes - or just re-set eyes. One got a new bill. As with any Beans, I have re-burned (i.e., relocated) I have the bill lines. They always need to be moved aft. The other 4 heads will be restored in situ. All will be sealed with Spar Varnish then primed with Flat Oils before the latex top coat, as will the bodies.







This Mallard got: structural repair; new eyes, new dowel. Since this photo, he has been sealed and base-coated.







I just finished sealing and painting this pair of Autumn Wings Redheads.






They got my "fancy gunning paint"....






Sadly, we have very few Redheads here in Eastern New York.






Plenty more to do "on the work bench".....
