Thought I might have posted some of these, but looking back in the last few workbench threads, I guess not.

Making a walking stick for my dad. Cut a stem out of a river birch in the yard last year, saved it thinking it still had a use for something. Used about half of it making this. Had a canvasback head cut and rough carved in a crate for years, stylized pattern from a Moak deek my dad has owned for over 40 years. Hopefully painting it tonight and finish up tomorrow, to take to him this weekend.

Good morning, Chuck~Finished up the walking stick the other night:
Simple stimple painted head with latex and acrylics
Whittled down the base for a 1" copper tube, secured with a brass screw, and optional indoor cap
Nice work all around! I especially like the "convertible" foot. I never thought of slipping a rubber boot over the copper.

BTW: I almost forgot to ask - How did you fasten the "handle" to the stick itself?
For the last few months I got in to making these vintage-styled wood signs. I used scrap lumber left over from a fence project and a letter stamping set from a company called Iron Orchid Designs.

Head is attached with a "threaded dowel" which to someone who does not work in a hardware store, is a double ended 5/16" lag bolt. The longest I found locally was 4", so 2" into each piece, therefore to add some strength through the grain of the head I ran a 3" wood screw up from the neck before attaching the head and stick with the threaded dowel plus some woodglue. Also drilled a 3/16" hole up through the bill into the middle of the head and epoxied a brass rod in there. Not intending it to be used as a hook, but who wouldn't be tempted to hook something rather than bend over, especially n 92 year old joints.
