Widgeon Wednesday

Finishing up the week of frond decoy pictures with a widgeon that has been well-traveled. This is the decoy that managed to get into a Gray's Sporting Journal pictorial essay (Sept./Oct. Issue). Nice bird:

I have a nice little frond carving drying on the Val-Oil table. One of the late Joe Wooster's best carvings was an alert wood duck drake getting ready to jump. Guess who has the pattern as well as the original pictures it came from?? It's a piece well-suited to a frond, but there's still quite a bit to be done before I post the final pictures on this one:

If I'm not mistaken, that wigeon is propped up in the mangroves. Was that picture taken at Merritt Island?

I think someone (Sutton maybe?) posted that picture on the forum last year.

Beautiful blocks as always, Bob. You are truly a gifted carver.

That is correct. Picture was taken in FL when Hitch & Sutton were hunting together last season. Don't know if Steve or John was the phitographer. Frond widgeon is now in Hitch's rig Hitch's; Euro is a cork decoy I did for Steve.

Yes, they are my photos, you can see Steve and Pat (our host) in the one photo. Steve shot the nice drake on the day the traveling wigeon was sitting on my front porch stoop after arriving late.
