Work...

Well I've been working 65-70 hours a week since last summer and I've had a handful of days off since, including weekends. Saturday was the last day off and the best dove hunt ever in a lifetime. Not complaining...I love my job.

Anyway; I get signed up to judge the 'Top Modeler' contest at work. Contestant users are given instruction on a solid part model to create and judged on the model construction techniques...all modeled in ProE software. Some of you may have heard about solid modeling. So anyway the department head signs me up. I actually took this kid hunting (younger than my son so I can call him a kid) when he was a CO-OP engineer out of Carnegie-Mellon 10+ years ago. So the contest is Thursday. Opening day is Saturday. The engineers have the lunch hour to model the part as prescribed. So I get this email from Tom who tells everyone that I am facilitating the contest for our product line at 1130 Thursday. I reply to him I am going scouting for ducks Thursday and Friday and hunting on Saturday, and that I would judge the models by Monday - COB. He replies to my email and asks me if he can go duck hunting with me on Saturday, and asks who my alternate will be Thursday...

Sometimes it's good to be an old fart with 'experience'.

You are going to have to scout real hard because as we know the STA's have "ruined" the state. That along with the black chopper corn drops...it will be a tough go.

Hey old fart, are you almost ready for another trip south?
If so, think may 4leave, arrive may 5, , may 12 head back!!!
Sounds like you have earned some R&R time, old man!!

As being an 'ole fart' myself some of the younger guy's modeling techniques blow me away. Apparently the schools are teaching alot more ProE today than when I started using it. I for one would like to see the winner unless it's top secret. BTW....just to let you know Windchill is easy...SAP is what sucks.

Have a good hunt this weekend. All the ducks must be in the south now because there ain't nothing here!

I'll probably just be making it worse Ron...and you too with your airboat. They should just ban airboats because they scare all the ducks into the STAs :-)

I once proposed that the amount of horsepower should correspond to the airboat operators I.Q. The proposal fell flat …which I suppose is good because it is hard to swing a 78 “ composite with only 30 horsepower.

I'm saving up George...we'll see what the job requires then, butt I am ready to go back! Hitch

These young guys with fancy degrees from fancy universities think that if you don't model it like a puzzle with half a dozen relations or sketch like houdini, then you aren't a man. I want models that are easily understood by the next guy who has to modify them and then write a revision. I want modelers who bury intent in their sketches and in the holes and features rather than in relations or in skeleton parts or in ProProgram. Egos are the nemesis of the young man and also some old men who never learn. Hitch

Thats the way I was taught. Keep it simple stupid! In my case where I work for compainies like Deere and Cat that hire 70% contractors for cad jockies you have to keep it simple. I agree with you 100%. I've already had to recreate a couple of models here because I simply didn't understand the relations that were used. Funcationalities such as Family Tables, Surfacing, Skeletons, ProProgram and Mechnica have there place but it's specialized and needs to be used accordingly. And I hate a modeler that suppresses features that fail instead of redefining the model!

LMAO....sorry Trip....I'll refrain from work subjects and keep it DUCK RELATED!!....;-0
