    ADK rescue NDR

Kevin: Saw the hoist on the TU site. The interview was slightly different from what we initially got, but similar and contained more details which you describe. Tough decision whether to sit it out or head down. Kids will always make the latter decision. Very lucky kids.

    ADK rescue NDR

Got a little more information today from work-source from an Adirondack network which a colleague who represents the DEC and the Park is tied into. The couple reached the summit and were headed down when they were enveloped by snow and fog. Apparently, they were quoted as saying the could not...

    Snows on the move

Just got off the phone with SJS, had not seen his post yet, and advised that at 6:00 pm, I got out of my truck and in the dark could hear large numbers of snow geese overhead; there is a near full moon or full moon with a smoking NWester so I guess they are on the move.

    ADK rescue NDR

Been following since they were reported. Stalwart action by the DEC and others. Conditions of the two unreported in the news, must be rough. Experienced hikers can have issues at this time of year, but wondering about the thinking here and whether they were experienced or just misguided...

Sauce for seared or grilled duck

For me, not very good. Though very personal. So you may like it. Many quality store boughten barbecue sauces would be better.

    Excitement!

Interesting. For twenty five years since I have lived in Cambridge, New York, a small town located in an agrarian area with the Adirondacks to the North and the Green Mountains to the east with vast areas of undeveloped land to the North and East, I have come across many individuals who have...

    Great Salt Lake under attack

Cody: Carl is right. Excuse me..... I should have made the observation as he did that these waters are all "waters of the United States" and will require a 404 permit, likely a full environmental review-Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and perhaps state review as well, if not preempted...

    Great Salt Lake under attack

Well, I am not so sure either. If it is a federal project or has any federal money or involvement, NEPA will apply and significant environmental reviews will have to take place. Some states require the same on a state level. So if there is any Federal involvement, NEPA should apply. But your...

    Great Salt Lake under attack

Cody: It is a proposal. While I do not know the exact details and whether the State or the Federal Government is proposing the project, one way or another, it will have to (or should have to) go through a withering legal and environmental review. Maybe a federal National Environmental Policy...

    Double Barrels for Ducks

Eric: My son started with a Mossberg Youth pump. Then went to a o/u which I did not shoot, but not a gun for a young man that he could travel with and required non-toxic shot. He shot it well. Looked around for an alternative, I was impressed with the Franchi Instinct for a reasonable...

Rails: Ebb and Flow, life on the tide

Thanks so much for the post. On my bucket list. Just returned from South Jersey to pick up a BBSB with a friend. Having left Long Island 30 years ago, seeing even the limited vistas of the salt marsh on the GSP-where tradition, rail hunting and black duck gunning prevail to this day, is so...

    Happy Father's Day!

Al: Thanks for this. I am who I am because of my father. Like others on this site his love of the outdoors directed me to a life long career of attempting to protect it. A man who spent countless hours teaching his sons woodcraft, bird hunting, gun handling and fishing. When the the fish were...
