Jet propelled customized 14 ft Aluminum Semi-V Duck Boat - Design/Modify sec.

Jet propelled decked 14 ft Aluminum Semi-V - History & Selection My first wood decked project is in the old reader's rigs. It was a 14ft 1961 Wolverine semi-V that after a few years of service I decked over with ply wood and sized lumber. I really liked that setup; the Wolverine was a tub...

Jet propelled customized 14 ft Aluminum Semi-V Duck Boat - Design/Modify sec.

After fitting the flotation the final wiring needs to get done - the raised island for the bow light needs to be fabricated so the light can be seen over the bow fixture. But meanwhile the decking is coming together. And this is pretty much how she's sitting now. I'll post more as she...

Jet propelled customized 14 ft Aluminum Semi-V Duck Boat - Design/Modify sec.

To keep this boat modification write-up simple, I'm separating the discussion on the history of my two previous boat decking builds, what I learned and what went into the selection of particular boat and what was behind this total bare hull makeover. It will be posted in a parallel thread to...

*VOTE for this years Traveling Decoy*

John K, a quick comment, Chuck has already provided a canvas Golden Eye and I believe it held up very well, we gunned over it in late Dec. And just to note, Chris has also previously supplied a mallard decoy for us to hunt over. My vote - The broad bill

Wing Survey: Any one else get their envelopes?

My envelopes arrived Sat. I can't believe goose opens here Sat. Being a water hunter I'll wait until mid week after the holiday crowds are back at work or in school. This 3 day weekend I hope to get my new boat project finished. Probably won't be painted but if she floats and scoots over...

    A little extra Scouting

I know I'm not the only one who uses Google Earth Pro to scout. Pick a winter shot to reduce foliage, rotate and change to angled view to get the "bird's eye" view. Hours and hours of enjoyment! Scott

duckboats.net is 10 (now 20). Can you believe it?

I just had fun going back to what we posted 10 years ago. To see what was written, but even more, to see who posted back then. My thoughts on this site are unchanged from my previous post, I still feel like it’s Eric’s den or living room and we’re welcome as long as we act civilized...

I broke the engine on my Merry Meeting Bay Scull Float

Mr. Werner, out of curiosity where are you located? I may have a doner motor here in CT and it sounds like you'll be needing one. Out put shaft turns, without turning over the motor, means that you have a broken shaft, stripped gearing or a failed bearing that's letting the gears unmesh. I...

    Fishing out of duck boat

I've crabbed out of my 12 -ft sneak box. With a second large adult, I've got to watch burying the bow. Thankfully the folded dodger kept the water out of the cockpit the one time I screwed up. I used to take my daughters out in the scull boat I'd practice they would fish. Brings back good...

First decoy(s); Bold enough to share?

I've posted my earliest attempts before but what the hey. These were a shot at my own BS Cork decoys when I was just getting started hunting over decoys. Connett's book, Duck Decoys in hand, but no understanding how to turn patterns into decoys. The funny part is that I shot birds over...

    Prop Protector for Running River

Oh you had to start this post! So I searched on my Nissan to see if there was a jet adapter for it. Sure enough there is. Jets seem to cost you 30% hp compared to the prop version. I have already taken the restriction plate out of my carb and reset the timing to get the full 30 hp. If I...

    Prop Protector for Running River

I've been running a Rock Hopper guard on my Nissan 25 hp for close to 10 years now on a very rocky stretch of the CT River. Not perfect but it's a big help. Scott

    New Motor weight question

If weight is your only concern, can't you simply add weight to your existing setup to see how she trims out? I can't be the only one with a bunch of dive weights around. Strapped to the back of the motor board to get the weight positioned correctly and take her for a spin. Scott

    Big Chill Coming!

"Big Chill Coming! below freezing here in Mobile Saturday" Carl you've been down south way too long! Up here we call this a week of 50 degree days, not below freezing temperatures. Way too funny! I bet when you lived up here (north of the MD line), you thought the same. "Wednesday A 50...

    trailer license plates

I've found that plastic plate holders and cold weather leave a bit to be desired. Last failure I gave up and cut one out of aluminum. New for this year are the light guards. I think I'm really going to like these in the river currents. Good luck! Scott
