A bear of a day ( for Todd's Friday entertainment)

"You gotta feel sorry for them, but it is amusing to watch them staggering like a drunken sailor." HEY......I was a drunken sailor! Dave

    Can silhouettes be too big?

Agreed, I had "normal size" tri-boards years ago and they really needed some serious weight to anchor them if the wind came up. The more weight just added to the pain it was to load them, stow them, and transport them. Dave

    Can silhouettes be too big?

Just make sure you aren't making them so big that transporting/storing/handling them becomes a huge pain in the butt. Dave

    Can silhouettes be too big?

I used to see the two man "goose" blinds down in Southern Illinois. The blind was a giant goose with louvered doors that would spring open when it was time to shoot. The geese slept all around them in the evening, didn't scare them a bit. Dave

    1966 Crestliner North Star project

Chris, that is my thoughts exactly. I would rather know that the oil is getting into the motor rather than wait for the VRO system to fail. I think the only place I need to plug off is at the front of the motor right near where the fuel line plugs in. I will investigate it more tonight. Dave

Shawn, I think you are right about more holes available. So far, I think bringing everything forward has done the trick. I'll keep you posted. Dave

Well....I'm still at it, but I had some time waiting on the motor to get finished. The weather was also crappy and I worked on other things like the garden tractor. It's all tuned up and ready for lawn season. I took the Comet in two days ago to have the transmission rebuilt so the 50 year old...

    Soule Era LL Bean Experts?

Jeff, are they Bean dekes or George Soule? I have a friend in Maine who has about 6 dozen Soule dekes....I was fortunate that he gave me one of them. Dave

Kodi is not sure about his layout...

There will be plenty of ducks next year....he has a duck crossing sign in the picture. They will walk right thru the backyard. Dave

Ouch, sorry for the rough day. At least you didn't take any shrapnel. Dave

Aluminum...not wood, but still sexy lines!

Great looking machine. I think I would put some "guide on" boards on that trailer to help with loading at the cross-current boat ramps. I run into that a lot so every boat trailer I have had ends up with a set. Dave

    Small battery for duckboat?

Best battery I were found was from the medical industry. These batteries were back-up batteries for baby incubators. I had a guy who worked for a medical company that was contracted to go into hospitals and replace the batteries annually. The batteries probably were never used in a years time...

    The deceived and the deceiver...

Vince - I had the same experience when I went to the Ward museum a few years ago. They had a carving inside a glass case of either an eagle or hawk holding onto a running ring-neck pheasant by a tail feather. The pheasant was dashing thru a cut corn field. I was told the raptor was suspended...

Blaine, this is definitely a keeper. This is truly a family treasure both in aesthetics and history. Dave

Thanks Steve. I have restored (you are never really done) a '66 Comet and I had a car cover which I had tore the corner when moving some stuff in the garage. I got a new/better cover but kept the old one (not really sure why). Well, as it turns out, the cover for a '66 Comet works remarkably...

    The deceived and the deceiver...

Tim......so many taxidermy displays (IMO) have become very standard or generic. One flying bird is the same as 10,000 others....wings cupped and bent against the wall. The dead bird mount was pretty different and I appreciated seeing taxidermists trying something new. I haven't seen many mixed...

We ARE IN FOR A RUDE AWAKENING!!!! SHORTER DUCK SEAON!!

Great and interesting views on this thread. I can see both sides...those that profit from the sea duck hunting and those that want to protect the birds....sometimes they are one in the same. There are also those that don't or won't ever have a chance at these birds since they don't or won't ever...

I'm still trudging along. Today I received the new stainless steel pipe and worked on fixing the boarding ladder. The original set-up made the ladder lean too much "under" the boat. After the new pipes were measured and cut, I grinded down the end to "mold" it to the stern. All that I need now...

So.....back to action. I installed the boarding ladder yesterday but wasn't real impressed with the way it sits. The two support legs leave the ladder "leaning" under the boat. Not a big deal, I ordered a 12" piece of stainless steel tubing that I can cut new legs. One leg needs to be about 5...
