    BBIII update

Here is the latest. I put the sides on today and dry fit the bulkhead templates. When I drew out the sides I added the thickness of the plywood (9mm) to the bottom of the side or chine edge. This allowed the chine edge to fall just below the bottom of the boat. When I flip it over I will plane...

    BBIII bulkhead ???

Charlie - I am going to be putting my sides on tomorrow (Fri). I have made templates out of luan and will dry fit them in and let you know what I get. My plans are the same as yours (missing measurement and all) so we should, in theory, get the same results. I will post pics and show progress...

    BBIII update

Thank you everyone for your well wishes and prayers. She is doing fine now and is in the recovery stage now. Just dealing with the pain of healing up. Should be better in a couple of days. Harry: I have heard a lot of great things about Obici too. She actually had it at Mary View. Not our...

    BBIII update

Well, here is my progress thus far. Some of the pics are from about a week ago. She is stitched up on the keel and ready for the sides. I'm going to have to take a little break as my bride is having her gall bladder taken out. Should be back up and running by next weekend. Enjoy!

    Panels cut??

Charlie, I had the same problem. Tried to cut just outside the line but didn't always make it. Once they were cut out I clamped them together and used a belt sander with 80 grit to smooth out the uneven parts. Not that worried about the small voids that this will create. I figure the filleting...

    Let the game begin!

Brandon - sending a rain dance your way! I have off until Monday so I'll hopefully have the bottom and sides cut by then. I'm a little nervous about gluing the panels together. I'll probably continue to stare at it and come up with a game plan the rest of the night and finally do it tomorrow...

    Let the game begin!

I think I got a little scarf happy. Good thing I haven't glued them yet. Looking at the plans it looks like you cut out the deck from 8' lengths. The "A" to "A" joint looks like it should fall on the #4 station or side deck knees. A butt joint with the knee as the attatch point/mender. If...

    Let the game begin!

Well Charlie, its like this. I set the scarfer up per the directions. I believe it stated to set the saw at a 7.5 deg angle. Done. I even measured it using a angle/bevel gauge not wanting to rely on the gauge on the saw. Cut the first piece. I was very excited about the look of the cut and...

    Let the game begin!

After weeks of collecting hardware, epoxy supplies, wood, tools and everything else I could get my hands on I officially got a start on my build today. I received the scarffing jig from John on Friday and scarffed all my wood today. John that thing works like a champ! Thanks so much for letting...

    bulkhead question

Thanks Charlie. As soon as I find out what is going on with the keels I will post. I can't wait to get started! My wife sure can though. Hahaha! Good luck with your build and your turkey hunting. Keep us all posted and I'll do the same.

    bulkhead question

Charlie, I see where the mesurement is missing too. When he contacts you about what it should be could you post it? I came up with a possible measurement of 2'-3 1/4" by using the scale and measuring keel to chine on the plans. Let me know what you find out. I also noticed that there are no...

    bulkhead question

Charlie - thanks for asking the question. I'm not at the point you are yet in building my BB3 but I was wondering how to approch that when I got there. I am going to start lofting the bulkheads out on luan first. I like your idea of tracing both sides of the batten. I have all my material, just...

    Epoxy system prices

I never checked out Raka, I went right away with US Composites. After reading about the differences on this site it sounded like the biggest one was the price. I believe that everyone that has used it here has been pleased with the results. I haven't used the product yet, but I can say the...

    Expensive custom tank for BBIII

You rock man! That looks great. Great idea about not glueing the shelf down. I probably would have. Won't now. I can see how it adds to the organization of the bow space. Kinda splits it up and makes compartments of sorts. I'm all about that. I was wondering about the anchor sliding around in...

    Expensive custom tank for BBIII

I asked you to convince me to buy the tank! HAHAHA. Kidding. Actually I really like what you sent me Andrew. I will definitely be looking more at the plastic option. Do you have any photos of your fuel shelf that you wouldn't mind sharing? Not wanting to steal it, just jumpstart my "creative...
