    Depressed

That quote is so true. Think about the 21 year old kid from MA that headed out to hunt in a kayak earlier in the week and has still not been found. I was thinking about heading out in the morning both Friday and Saturday to walk in spots and exercised judgement and stayed in until afternoon...

    Missing Massachusetts duck hunter

Curious as to the type of kayak and did he launch at the Hoppy's Landing? That is an interesting stretch of water for a kayak when even a light wind is against the tide. Hunted Little Harbor for years and the search and rescue on the water has their work cut out for them with all the uncharted...

    Blackjack vs Broadbill

Tony is right and there is wood in the boat's construction.

    Blackjack vs Broadbill

With small boats, darkness, cold water, winter, submerged objects all waiting for the right moment, I have never been a fan of speed in a duck boat. Neither am I of underpowering a hull. I much prefer idle speed in the darkness or rough areas I hunt than W.O.T.; however you want to be able to...

    The Duck Boat Company update

What a well thought out operation and even providing for the customer after the sale. So many people in business today feel they are entitled to a customers business and have zero customer service skills. Way to go on the overnight rooms. Are you going to bring any of the AA hulls back into...

    towing a sled behind boat

I have pulled a fiberglass pond box behind my kayak with great luck and short rope of 8-10 ft. Under power is when you will have issues with a repurposed sled if you are not careful. I have pulled pond boxes under power and had to travel at idle or no wake speed. Trial and error.

    Product review...

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I was considering a few for next season and after that I will not. Seems like all brands have their issues and best part about wood blocks carved by yourself is that you only have one person to blame for manufacturing defects-yourself. Just got some GHG Pro Grade...

Cold weather lower unit up or down

Not a mechanic and always left mine in the water on some very cold days and didn't have an issue. Only time I pull it is on the shallow tidal flats as I do not want to find it buried in silt on a dropping tide.

Decoying brant with non brant decoys?

I have shot them as an add on when Bluebill hunting on open water with a large spread of Bluebill decoys and over Eider decoys also. All the brant pulled into the decoys. Remember to hunt the tides with Brant and they were less shy of a 19 ft boat in open water than the Bluebills and as a matter...

What to use on the floor of a Roy boat.

Harbor Freight sells a padded floor mat but it is solid and not honey combed like restaurant mats. I think they are around $10 and if you get DU magazine you will find an add with a 20 or 25% off coupon. I bought a set and they work great.

    South Jersey Mud...

What ever happened to the mud walkers that they use to sell in the back of Wildfowl magazine back in the late 80s? I believe they were sold out of NH. I have experienced similar silt in salt marshes in MA. Funniest experience was a partner that brought along hip boots and not waders.

    Arthur Armstong Wigeon seam Leak

The increased hp rating over others could be in part due to additional flotation.

    Arthur Armstong Wigeon seam Leak

I would be careful on what you use to seal it up as when you need to replace the transom core, you will be making a disaster for yourself. If the transom core is wood I would use a 3M marine sealant or comparable rather than a hardened epoxy that binds the two parts together and you have to cut...

    Arthur Armstong Wigeon seam Leak

Another thing to look for is the drain plug tube in the splash well. Mine was plastic and broken and the seal let go long ago. So water would seep in as well around the plastic plug and into the wood core transom. I replaced with a brass drain tube over the plastic through hull fitting...

    Arthur Armstong Wigeon seam Leak

If everything is intact you will need to drill out rivets to remove rub rail, back out screws, use a putty knife or similar to separate the sealant and then the top should pop off the hull. It does fit tight so becareful not to put to much pressure on one spot when prying them apart. Good...

    Missing Three Quarts of Oil

When was the last time you checked your oil in terms of miles and months? I had a 96 GC Jeep and the gauge did the same from time to time for no apparent reason over the course of the last 10 years I owned it but I always kept on top of fluids.

    outboard question

Question for the outboard users, how many run the fuel out of the system at the end of every day's use? I use to do this years ago and stopped when somebody claimed the residual fuel in left in the cylinder from the shutoff protected it from short term corosion. I still due this on smaller...

    Help needed with AA Broadbill

Make sure that splash well brass drain plug and cockpit cover is sealed up well as it is a direct conduit to the plywood transom.

    How's this for a bull?

I was shocked when the picture first loaded as it cut off his feet and looked as if he was holding the rack up in the air with one hand. That would be just as impressive as the rack.
