    Decoy Swap

Had a minute today to work on my offering for the swap. Roughed it out and glued the head on. Lots more shaping to do, then sand it smooth, and on to burlap.

    Gunning Box/Coffin Blind dimensions

I already put one together with wire and it worked great. My plan is to fillet the seams inside and use just one layer of 4" tape over the fillet. The outside will get 6oz. cloth. I posted pics on another post.

    Gunning Box/Coffin Blind dimensions

If you are 6'3" and sitting in an inclined position then how is 7' to small? The longer you make it, the heavier it will be. Also, I like to have my feet pressed against the end of the box when I sit up. I made a cheap box with osb just to try out and it was way too long and too much room in...

    Stitch and Glue Gunning Box

Bob, I didn't use any plans. It's probably most like the Sanford Box. The stern/foot end is 24"wide, 30" around the shoulder/arms area, and 18" at the bow/head end. I just drew a nice arc with a piece of 1/2" cpvc. The sides are 9" and are flat for 4' and then rise 6" to the bow. The end...

    some pictures from the season

Great season and great photos! Thanks for that. Way to get after 'em in the layouts! I still have never tried it yet. The plan is to build one this year! My goal is to have 2 gunning boxes and a water layout finished by October! Pretty lofty goal I know, but, I do have a retired...

    Stitch and Glue Gunning Box

We slapped a box together today. The bottom and sides are 1/4"mahagony and the ends are 1/4" baltic birch underlayment. It will get filleted and taped on the inside and clothed on the outside. It will be towed behind the boat with a couple bags of decoys in it.

    Steve Sanford Gunning Box Build

Bob, your build has inspired me to build a couple of these this year. Well, that and the fact that they dropped the river 10 or 12 ft. this winter and there was nowhere to hide from the birds! I made a throwaway box from OSB just to finish out the season and it kept me dry and out of the...

Thanks for sharing that Jon. I had an experience very similar to that in the fog this season. Scared the crap out of me!!!

a question for you washington guys

Chris, the ducks taste funny on the west side of the state! :) I would recommend eastern washington. The lake I live on has some excellent large and smallmouth fishing and good mixed bag opportunities at waterfowl!

Coco's 1st Trip and My last for the Season

Way to get the pup out there with you Carl! The light bulb will eventually go off and she will realize what her place is! Xena was much the same off the get go, but now she is amazing!

    The A-5 is back

Sweet! The first 12 ga. that I ever shot was my dad's (actually, my grandpa's) Belgium A-5 with the engraving and gold plated trigger!!! I loved that gun!

    the fire and the ice

Thanks Todd! I enjoyed that thoroughly!!! Those are some nice greenheads! Seems like Artie found his new calling! I used to hunt without a dog, but now, I couldn't imagine going out without Xena! It'd be a sin! :)
