I thought it was going to hurt a lot more than it did...

Guys, it's all in fun, I knew it was going to happen eventually. I crippled a Buffie coming in and then the swat was a little high and took out my decoy. I was the one shooting. It's a decoy and I'll patch it up tonight and hunt it Friday. Might have to do a repaint at the end of the season tho...

Not much flying, but I have pretty decoys to look at!

I'd like to say that my decoys were working and the ducks were piling in, but only Buffies were flying and they'll decoy to turds. Oh well! There's always tomorrow....

    DRILLING EYE HOLES

Go to a production tool supply house and get a STRAIGHT SHANK COUNTERBBORE. It has a pilot hole to guide you. (I drill the eye location the same size of the pilot when the head is still square). This will give you a clean hole with a flat bottom. Depending on how anal you are, you can get them...

    Best book for waterfowl pictures?

Lee: Buy yourself a 18 x 24 cork board and mount it over your painting bench. Then you just tack up the reference photos that pertain to what you are doing. I like to have a few overall photos along the bottom and then detail photos above. You can put 16 4x6 photos on the board. Good luck!

    Addding pain to apoxy

You really shouldn't add anything to epoxy except for additives manufactured especially for epoxy, such as fumed silica, microballoons, microfibers, talcum powder, etc. Why do you want to add paint to it if you have to paint over it anyway?

    Onyx M24 PFD

I agree with Kristan, however, I'm also a realist. The vast majority of people entering the water do so fully conscious. I am more likely to wear my vest if it is comfortable and out of the way. Unless you plan on wearing it the whole time you are hunting, I would skip the camouflage. I wear it...

August: What's falling off you workbench?

Yep! Kamikaze decoys, always trying commit sewyside! I had a Mallard that was intent on ending it's short life. Just broke the bill, epoxied it back on and painted it up. Glad your goose made it out alive, must be all that clean livin'!

    August "Whats on your workbench?"

Mark: The doves look cool! Geoff: Always great to see anything you put a knife to! John: I can count on a unique look when your decoys show up! Nice! Sean: The Teal is to die for. Maybe the angle, but it it giving me the evil eye? Chris: Nice Mallard! Here are 3 Bluebills that I have been...

Shameless plug for a great product

Thank you Paul for that glowing review, the shirts are a registered trademark, I can't be seen without it! I will agree that Paul makes some beautiful utensils! True art! I have made a few spoons as gifts in the past, but his are such a joy to work with. Again, many thanks and I'm glad we were...

    a carving question

For a new pattern, I fully carve one decoy, making notations on the pattern as I carve. Once fully developed, I carve 3 decoys at a time. Just enough going on that I'm not overwhelmed. I don't have a huge rig and I probably put more time and details than necessary, but it's cheap therapy. Good...

    Mallard decoys

George: Actually, it was a bit of sarcasm that fell flat. We all know that you can save soooooo much money carving your own decoys. I could have been much further ahead if I had just parted with $3600 for 3 dozen decoys. But then I would not have met you..............hmmmmmm, yep I would have...

    Mallard decoys

Well, I doubt you will find much, if any, cedar or cork decoys at $50. Maybe start carving your own rig and save the money you would have to pay for custom? Good luck!
