Historic Mattamuskeet Lodge in NC may be sold

My uncle mounted several ducks and donated them to the lodge a dozen or so years ago. I think the museum would be a huge asset to our area and preserve a unique heritage. Whom do we contact, how do we get the ball rolling? I'd love to help, but I just don't have a lot of free time.

Historic Mattamuskeet Lodge in NC may be sold

I haven't been inside the lodge in about 8 years. To say it was in disrepair would be generous. It would take millions to fix up the structure, and I just don't see the state making that investment (no matter how cool it would be as an educational facility). I've hunted with Jamin Simmons...

Building an Aluminum BBIII - what modifications would you make circa 2017

Troy, I think it'd be awesome to build it from 3/16" but I don't know if anything beyond the hull would be truly helpful. As a teenager, I built a couple boats from scratch. I beefed them up, then I realized I made a grave mistake by adding way too much weight. I know it'll be a tank, but I...

Rudyard Kipling's "Power of the Dog"

When I look at my 5-year-old lab's graying muzzle, it gives me a lump in my throat. My family's last lab lived to the ripe age of 15. Kipling was right, but the good times and the memories exponentially outweigh the sorrow. My heart hurts for you, Tom. None of us should take one second of...

How few ducks are there here???

Carl, we don't have any bluebills in NC either! It's very weird...maybe next year. Do you think we'll ever get to shoot a 4-bird limit again? Wehn we target scaup, the 2-bird limit sure does make the hunt go too quickly.

    Closing time

Another great hunt, Andrew! You're putting on a clinic! Craig, I'd be mad if you wouldn't let me have any coffee, too! My last day ended on a decent note. Waterfowling in eastern NC is growing increasingly crowded. To make sure we got our spot, we left home at 1:00 am. Our logic was...

How few ducks are there here???

Carl, we just got a good push of puddle ducks here in the NC coastal sounds. It's about time. I don't think they'll make it down to you by tomorrow though. :(

    Prop Reccomendation?

Carl, I'm running the exact same pitch and diameter prop on my 25hp. I prefer aluminum over stainless, too.

It, no kidding, would crank faster than my Tahoe.

    25hp e-tec

I had a 90 Etec. I loved that engine! The only issue I ever had was that the "low oil" alarm would beep sometimes when I was in a heavy following sea. The oil in reservoir would slosh around and trick the sensor into thinking the oil level was low. Also, be sure to talk to some guys in your...

    boat wiring

I wholeheartedly second Tod Osier. I've been using naked crisps with adhesive marine heat shrinks (and tinned copper wire) on my personal boats. I've had years of use and no issues whatsoever. Those new solder crimps, however, have me very intrigued! Thanks for sharing those! When I worked...

    hopes and dreams

I ageee with Carl on all points. I love a trustworthy 2 stroke. My fear is that my preference of 2 stroke technology places me squarely in the minority. I've owned 4 strokes; they're mighty convenient and quiet. I also (once again we're in the minority here) prefer smaller vessels. The trend is...

    Tuesday morning

Andrew, great job! Your diligent scouting is textbook waterfowling! I love shooting gray ducks...they're good eating too! Please keep the good reports coming; us east coast guys need the encouragement. Good luck Saturday!

    Herters model 72 dimensions

I use model 63's as bufflehead. If you're really serious about shooting bufflehead, just solely put out 4 or 5 of these. Be sure to put them close to shore and have an improved cylinder choke...you'll get some great action. I've done this with my nephew; he loves bufflehead hunting!

    Herters model 72 dimensions

The standard model (63's) are tiny. They look like a bufflehead-sized body.

Herters Decoy Pics for Robert Pinner

We found a bunch of "suc ducks" that my uncle purchased 20+ years ago. He had a large stool of model 72's (we still have those too), but he bought these for the weight savings. My cousin did some research and found how to make them self-right with pieces of composite deck board. The lack of self...

    A Good Couple Days

Craig, I'm posting here to remind you why we endure the bad times. The fleeting good hunts make the grind worthwhile. My hunting buddies are dipping out on me as the outlook looks bleak for the remainder of our season. I'm glad this forum has some other diehards who share my drive (or possibly...
