    Just got home from vacation...

Hi everyone, I've been out of the loop for two weeks. We went to my Grandma's house in MO for a visit. She's 96 and still living alone at home. At that age, I want to spend as much time with her as I can. She practically raised me, and I have such great memories of growing up with her and...

    We have a new project....

Charlie and Gene, I went on Klen Strip's site and found the following info: This professional grade paint stripper is fast acting and will effectively remove finishes from the metal surfaces of automobiles, trucks and cycles. It is effective on acrylics, lacquers, polyurethanes, baked enamels...

    We have a new project....

we have a ways to go, but we got the seats, decking, and old nasty flotation out. A grinder helps a bunch on the old rusty bolts.... just so you don't catch the old rotten plywood on fire :) When sanding the old paint, should we take everything off, or just the...

    We have a new project....

Thanks guys! We are already having a GREAT time with the project (plus we are carving a bunch of decoys as well, now that the garage is finally setup after the move). We finished taking out the old wood from the seats and deck, and all the old flotation. I will post some pictures later today...

    We have a new project....

thanks to Ed L. Matt and I have a new boat project to work on for the fall. We bought Ed's dad's boat, and now that Baseball season is almost over we are working on it together and planning to use it this year on the Mississippi. It's a 1961 Starcraft, 15' with a '71 Evinrude 25 hp. A lot of...

    Winchester Model 24....

Hi Nathan, I grew up shooting a model 24 16 gauge that belonged to my father. I own 3 model 24's, in 20, 16 and 12 gauge. They are awesome guns that are very well made. Once considered the "poor man's 21", they don't have all the frills (no single selective trigger, ejectors or fancy wood) but...

    Mounting hardware to fatboy

Dave, That is basically the same setup I used for mine. Ira's is pretty similar as well. I used Footman Loops bolted to the sides (washers and bolts stainless, and a little marine silicone if you feel you need it. I didn't because I used washers and the whole upper deck area is above waterline...

    Jeremiah Sportsmen's Outdoor Expo...

Pat, It looks like you all had a great display! I wish I could have gotten down to meet everyone. Seems like somehow 'Life' gets in the way. Oh well. I hope to meet you and the rest of the IL Duck Boaters sometime soon. God Bless, Chad Huff

    Illinois is a lonely place.....

Ryan, I am not sure how you guys keep track of the regs. But my hat is off to you for it. I am going over to meet up with Ed today, perhaps sometime we can do the same. I head towards Iowa quite a bit for Hunt Tests. I want to thank all of you for your help in getting me started. It is...

    Illinois is a lonely place.....

Jim, Sorry we couldn't make it to Burlington this weekend. Matt ended up having a Baseball game (rain day makeup). Anyway, I hope there is another time we can meet. Thanks for the help.

    A case for redundancy....

Tod, That is one cute little boy, and it looks like he was having a good time. If you can get another just like him then you will have your 'twins' set up and ready to go :) Seriously, having your kids in a boat with you puts the safety vs. cost discussion into perspective. What time is...

    Momarsh Website

Ira, I am guessing it is a liberal attempt to corrupt the site and get Ed Numby to turn states witness. DON'T LET IT HAPPEN!

    Illinois is a lonely place.....

Hi Jim, I looked at the website, and it looks like a GREAT event. I am going to talk to the wife and see what is going on for Saturday. Maybe we could come down on Saturday. I'd like to get there early enough for Pat's seminar. I will PM you and let you know if we can come. Thanks for the heads...

    Illinois is a lonely place.....

Thanks for the offer Mike... I might definitely take you up on that. That area in the chain of lakes looks neat, though a little populated. Wen I drove through there I thought it looked like a cool place to hunt. Are the DNR blinds assigned like the ones on the Mississippi, every 2 years? What's...

    Illinois is a lonely place.....

Brandon, that is a very generous offer. I really appreciate it. I have spent some time in the UP over the years, and it certainly is beautiful country. Back in the '80's I used to lead 20 day wilderness trips on the shores of Superior for inner city kids. In more recent years I have been...

    Illinois is a lonely place.....

I would truly LOVE to layout hunt. I have done it to a much lesser degree in MO, on power plant lakes and Truman etc, but not out of a TRUE layout rig (mostly DP's and similar craft). Right now I don't have the riggings for it, and I have a 10 year old to think of.... I would love to get out a...

Joe....the Mexican Speckled Quail are on their way.

Dave, I vote for Speckled Quail Kabobs! I am supprised the eggs aren't speckled... where do they get the spots form? Seriously, those are going to be neat birds to raise! Chad
