    Devlin 16 Scaup topsides rehab

Eric, The pads are where my bronze deck cleats will mount. They do not serve any real purpose, just a detail I wanted to add. Question for you - I painted the boat with Parker?s Marsh Grass, which is a very different color than my previous paint which was a much darker green, which is Parker...

    Devlin 16 Scaup topsides rehab

I never ended up posting any build photos when I first started building my Scaup 18 some years ago, but I?m just finishing up a topsides rehab after roughly 18 years of duck hunting, crabbing, and other Puget Sound activities. She has seen a lot of miles, both on the road and through the water...

    Finally bought a Filson

Filson tin cloth and shelter cloth traditional jackets, heavy wool jackets, and luggage are still made in Seattle. All of their more trendy/technical products are outsourced, but the traditional stuff is still made my hand at their factory in Seattle. The cotton itself for the tin and shelter...

    Scaup

I also forgot to note that the effects on the static trim of the boat are pretty minimal in my opinion. The LCG does move further aft, but I dont think it has too much of an impact on trim. I agree with Eric that hole shot almost certainly negatively effected, but with a 40hp motor (which...

    Scaup

Phil, I built my Scaup approximately 8 years ago now, and built it with a full transom. In that time I have done a lot of hunting and crabbing with the boat, and in my opinion the full transom is the way to go. I do agree that you lose some of the "appeal" and "uniqueness" of what the...

If you are considering building a Devlin boat in 2010.....

I have always wanted to build a Mudpeep or Peeper (same boat, one is decked, one is not) that would be a real nice small/lightweight boat that could be used for hunting or lake fishing. I also think it would be a fairly seaworthy boat for it's size as well.

Question for Jim Donofrio and Cas Alkanowski

So is it only ethical hunting when doing so on public/state land (not your own private property) from a BBSB (without depth sounder) with a spread of hand made blocks set out?

    New boat in the arsenal

Pete - yes I believe that boat does use water jets, almost certainly built by Kamewa (Rolls Royce). The largest waterjet we produce moves 12 cubic meters (or 3,000 gallons) of water thru each jet in one second and will absorb up to 7,000 hp! That boat looks like it is using six or even eight...

What is the best Personnal Floatation Device for boat hunters?

Hi Bill - I think the Mustang survival coat would really be the ticket, my only concern with it is sort of a "shiny green" rather than a "flat green." However, it sounds like it works well for Tod, he must not have any issues with the color. I had always wanted to go the suspenders route, but...

Boat updates, neat stuff and safety stuff...

Tod - I dont want to beat the "shock chord" thing to death, but there is a product called Anchor Buddy that is a 50' length of bungee/line that works really well for pulling the boat out. It is used just as Dave described. I have never used it for duck hunting because I really dont have the...

    30 year old Garvey Box

I'm not sure why I cannot get pictures to post right now, so I just added them as attachments. Thought you all might enjoy a photo from last weekend - The boat is a 14' modified Garvey that my dad built approximately 30 years ago. It is flat bottomed (goes in very shallow water) with a lot of...

Anybody using the Styx River-Neo Mats in their boat?

Hitch - your boat looks too clean and perfect to even hunt out of! Very nice! I have heard though that the Styx matting does sort of stay spongy wet, and that has always been my concern about trying it myself.

    Filson Product Satisfaction

I thought you would all enjoy reading a short story of my recent dealings with Filson, since I know many of you enjoy their products as much as I do. I have purchased many Filson products over the years, and rely on my Wildfowl hat and Waterfowler sweater on every hunt to keep me warm and dry...
