Last day of northern WI duck season

I didn't mean to suggest that Mark did anything he shouldn't have, and I can understand the states position on transporting water in your boat that could carry invasive plants and animals. My only point was that when the ramp is slick and traction could be a concern I'll be mindful to remember...

Last day of northern WI duck season

Wow, sorry to hear about your troubles at the launch. I'd be pretty jumpy if my rig started sliding into the water too! Note to self, don't pull the boat plug until AFTER I make it to the top of the ramp. That one will come in handy some day when I can afford a larger boat. Erich

    Alaskan Black Friday Hunt 2011

Thanks! It's a fiberglass rat. I need to freshen up my grass on the hull and add some snow camo to break up the dark siloette as we move into the snow season. I soak them in water then buttermilk and they taste great. The salmon have been gone for a couple months now. Erich

    Alaskan Black Friday Hunt 2011

Had a great solo shoot Friday. Shot my first limit of the season and didn't even need a buffie to round it out, lol! Finished with 4 mallards and 3 pintails. Before the internet police kick down my door, Alaska does not have any restrictions on the number of pintails you can shoot. I...

    Kayak Cart with Independent Suspension

You're right about the suspension, it's intended to take the edge off the sharp bumps. It needs some adjustment and currently the wheel sits too far forward for my liking. Originally the weight was centered on the cross brace where that extra tube is. When I switched to the trailing arms I...

    Kayak Cart with Independent Suspension

Here's the video again: http://youtu.be/MHHjkj5a1DA The tubing above the wheels is my fix for having to use a bolt instead of a welded in rod. It clamps around the aluminum tube to spread the load from the offset tires. I'll have to see if I can get a weight on it. I couldn't really give...

    Kayak Cart with Independent Suspension

I appreciate the suggestion and I did consider grade 8 bolts, but I opted to see if I could keep the corrosion protection and try the stainless steel. So far, so good. The whole idea behind the aluminum trailer, instead of steel, is the corrosion problems associated with launching in salt...

    Kayak Cart with Independent Suspension

I went with the suspension manly because I thought it would be fun to have a trailer that could handle some bumpy trails towed at a pretty good clip behind my mt. bike. I'm not quite ready to trust this trailer with that yet and it may prove to be a bad move. I think the current set up is...

    Kayak Cart with Independent Suspension

I've seen the paddlecart before. I really like the design and the holes in the plates that reduce weight but keep strength. The bent tube is also really clean looking. Erich

    Kayak Cart with Independent Suspension

I had something similar happen with my very first cart. I was in college and poor so I made it from PVC and an old golf caddie. It was working fine until one morning at o-dark-thirty when it broke at the neck and went careening off into the bushes, which turned out to be stinging nettles...

    Kayak Cart with Independent Suspension

Funny you should ask that. I am using a 1/2" stainless steel bolt because my first try with a 1/2" aluminum rod folded like a limp noodle, lol! Talk about discouraging! Adding double wheels would be the way to go. Just go for a longer stainless steel bolt. Erich

    Kayak Cart with Independent Suspension

I've been working on this project for quite a while and finally got it out for some feild testing. It worked like I hoped, but I did find some things I need to address. It has two independent trailing arms with Mt. Bike shocks and poly wheels to resist corrosion. Check out my...
