APRIL What's on Your Workbench

killer GE Steve!!! I had issues with white Gesso picking up color in the muddy stuff we hunt here in Mo.

Oils BWT I have been working on today. Might be a little on the bright side hope it mellows when it dries.

Just scored a bunch of new wood :D. I hope to carve a few rigs before the fall season. I will knock the shine off of these...Ronans...then a little dressing of some fine oils :D

Love it man. attitude and style.

Roy,
Nice to see a rig in the works.

Here is the next step of work on the blackducks. Might get them completed in this months thread we will see.

Here are a few I just finished. Hollowed white pine with basswood heads.

Thanks to you guys who showed some birds on your painting sticks. I made a few and it helped out tremendously.

Steve, awesome Common GE.

Brandon, there looks to be some freezer meat in the background of your picture. You don't even have to put boots on to hunt them.

...more importantly are what appears to be sap collection devices hanging on the trees in his pictures!

Haha.. I did realize the sap containers were in the picture. We will be cooking syrup one more time this weekend and then pull out taps. Its really good runs right now but enough will be enough. The deer I did not realize was there but we do have lots hanging on the property eating there daily hand out of corn. Probably has something to do with all that white stuff still on the ground.

Some teal migrating to Florida and Louisiana. Also got the pickleweeds painted as well as the golf clubs...

I remember years ago, one of my carving mentors, Jerry Cranwill was making golf clubs. He had a couple hundred old woods in his yard and one day he was out cutting the heads off of them with a Sawzall. A couple was walking by, saw what he was doing to which he replied, "I hate golf..."

See you up at St. Charles...

Sweet Pat!! I will plan ahead for next year, this year though; I did make the right decision, BUTT, you guys have fun up there!! I will be thinking about you, and I will miss being there

...wish I could be there, more than you know. Hitch

Getting my teal rig done slowly but surely......need to get some tacks for the eyes and determine if i want keels yet...and i am not sure if i like the bills on the hens.

Minus the little guy on the end all are black cork with pine heads and maple tails...the three without eyes have a pine board bottom.

Mark~

Very nice BWT rig! But those upholstered "decoy racks" seem a bit lavish for gunners....

Here is a Broadbill that just passed its sea trials. Hollow pine, latex paints, pine keel with lead poured in.

All the best,

SJS

Thanks Steve. I still need to float them so the ride like your BB (or as close as I can get them right now).

The decoys were getting some sun on the sundeck of my pontoon while I was working to get it ready for the summer fishing season.
