11 months old and a bundle of mischief.

It was sitting on the wood stack next to the bench until storm decided to swipe it this morning. Bad dog!

Brandon, you aren't kidding about the mess part. Yes, I will cut side profiles, if you look in the background there are two blocks I glued 1x to the side before cutting out, and I drew the topview perfectly parrallel to the sides. I will cut out two different side views (a more upright, rounded breast and a head forward swimmer shape) on these and use them as jigs for the rest. I did a pair last fall and sealed with Kilz and was happy with that, less muss and fuss. That is the whole lot of Mark's cork cut up there, minus one piece that was too narrow, plus the pieces you and Terry got. Cut anything out of that yet?

Steve, yes, cork. I have made plenty of smaller body deeks but have found the effort involved isn't worth it for small deeks, unless you just want that look. Bigger decoys are easier to shape and pull the cloth, and the material effeciency as well as weight advantages shine in brant sized birds and bigger.

Sure,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, blame it on the poor puppy. The damage could have been from a foredom which got away or sloppy knfe work. The only reason we would even consider believing you is the lack of blood splatter. :>)
 
In my 44 years i have never met anyone who carved.What you fellas do with a block of wood is truly amazing to guy like me.Great talent on this site.
 
Sean...I'm not sure if you inspire me to try harder, or make me want to give up trying haha....two of my favorite species there, beautiful!!

Just finished this Greenwing Drake. I painted it in oil - but I cannot remember what wood I used - White Pine? White Cedar? Basswood? Got too many birds going....

Steve that greenwing is killer! Any chance you could snap a pic from above? Ive never painted a gwd and I have a head on the bench and am looking for ideas for layout. If birds gone no biggie! Exceptional shape
