Only 2 boats out today. By happenstance, I came across the other party in open water. Both of us were on plane going somewhere and our paths crossed at right angles at about 100 or 150 yards. I gave a big wave and got nothing from the pilot or passenger.

Do we not wave anymore?

That's a bit odd. Not waving isn't all that unusual around here, but not waving in return is a bit of a snub.

There's lots of that nowadays, nobody's friendly like years ago. Or they were former students of yours. Still would be nice of them to gesture, whether palm or middle finger.

That was how it was received - a snub. Was a truck and boat that I hadn't seen before.

I don't think it was anyone I knew, I would expect it then. :).

Just surprising on the salt in the winter, all people usually give a nod or wave.

Weather turned horrible and kicked my ass.

I agree, in the winter most folks are just a little bit friendlier. As long as you got all the ducks, the heck with them.

Yup people are really like that.

There was a dude here at work that would purposely look away from you AFTER you say good morning as you pass him in the hall.

I thought maybe it was just me....but nope....everyone i've talked to says he does that.

I got nuthing but wind burnt, wet and frustrated. Good luck tomorrow if you are headed out for the last day.

Definitely more normal to get a wave back.
Maybe he was busy checking his iPhone to see if the DHBP was back online.

Sorry to hear about the skunk. I flew the white flag the other day, all the birds that were in my area during the freeze have gone south to the island to get shot. Flew over there a week and a half ago, there were rigs everywhere, north and south shore. FWIW, either stores on the island are out of face paint and masks, or the thatch is getting mighty thin on everyone's boats. Until you see it from the air, it's hard to understand just how much the ducks see. Hope you wear a hat. [angelic]

Just keep waving and assume they did not see you. I refuse to change my ways because I don't get a response at all times. I wave all the time, while boating, walking, running, driving, and maybe it will rub off it not, I will annoy someone and that makes me happy too!

Unfortunately I think it is a sign of the times...the sound was definitely snotty today.
I could of shot some Easter ducks ( Buffleheads ) gave them a pass. I am also done.
Might try for some geese in the late season, definitely need some colder weather.

You are now my prime suspect. :).

Not to make excuses but you have no idea what they are going through, thinking about, etc. So keep waving and maybe they will cheer up.

My take when dealing with people who don't wave back, bad drivers, etc..

I like Rick's response. We don't know what others are going through. I will give a wave and let it go. Just don't set up downwind of me!
Most all boaters in northern Michigan give a wave. I remember during Covid and the lack of socialization. I NEVER had so many strangers smile and wave to me as I drove down the roads in northern Michigan.
