BBSB REBUILD dodger is all done

Dennis,
Thanks for the heads up. I was at work at the time to cut it would have been. For the deck i just cut as close as i cloud and used a shore form to clean the hardened cloth off. It worked well.

Nice job Chris and I've already picked up quite a bit from your posts. What paint are you using? Lou FME would be a good choice.

Mark

I was in the process of talking with Lou about his FME. When my girlfriend brought home a gallon of parkers for me as a present so I couldn't not use it or I would never hear the end of that one (remember the one time I got you duckboat paint and you didn't use it) I can hear it now so parkers is it. But I would have got FME

Aha! So it looks like she does "understand" (somewhat) and feed your passion for duck hunting and all things related! You're going about it the right way... you refinish a boat, she buys you some paint. You buy another boat, she buys you a trailer. Hopefully you'll progress to the point where you buy some decoy line, and she'll buy you some good quality decoys from some of the carvers on this site :)

Yeah she is coming around and making an effort too. I can't complain. BUT she did by the cheapest DB paint on the market. Haha

Thanks rick. I can't wait to get her done and in the water. As far as the glass work I just need to glass the transom. I also need to tape the featheredge. Then its on to putting everything back on. The good thing is everything is already made. Before I decided to reglass I made the floor boards, decoy racks, new motor board, grass rails, and cockpit cover. So its just putting it all back on and painting. So It feels all down hill from here. This up coming duck season will be extra special hunting out of a boat that I put so much time and work into. That's what its all about.

I am finished the glassing and epoxy part of my rebuild. It feels good to be able to say that and get that part out of the way. I put 6in. Tape on the featheredge last week and sanded the hull and faired the edge of the tape I then sanded the whole boat and put on one more coat of epoxy on top and bottom to make it it all fair. It came out great. Its nice and smooth.this week I will head back over to Bill Simonsen's shop and rip the new ice runners and make a new skeg. I will be making a smaller skeg only 2inch rather then the 4inch one it had. The runners and skeg is all that I have left to make. Then I just need to put everything back on and paint. Eaisier said then done I hope to have her in the water in 3 weeks. We'll see. The season is a coming fast I am so excited to hunt with my new sneakbox this season.

The glare and shine on this last picture looks bad. It looks like a pile of sanding dust is on the drying epoxy. When I posted these pictures in the post I saw that and got nervous. I ran back to the garage to look.

Looks nice...can't wait to see it completed and ready for the water!! Nice job and thanks for documenting the process.

Thanks for all the complements guys and all the help that many of you have given me along the way. It made things a lot eaiser and made the rebuild go smooth or atleast smoother.

Huntin Dave,
I like that idea. I will do that for sure. Thanks

Chris,
Great job on your rebuild, you can be proud of your work. I hope you post up the finished product in the water of course.
Have you any new pictures of Bill Simonses boat?
Bill.

Bill,
Thank you. I will post up some pictures of my rebuild when I get her in the water. I can't wait to run it in the water. I just got home from Bill Simonsen's shop. I went there to use his table saw to rip the new ice runners for my BBSB. I didn't take any new pictures of his build. He put the deck on and glassed the whole boat. Its looking good. I think he sold it already though.

Today I have been working on the ice runners. At first I made them 1x1 and didn't like the way they looked (to tall). I planned them down to 1x3/4 they look a lot better now. I have the holes drilled and everything all set. I did a dry fit first. Now I will use epoxy and stainless bolts to attach them to the hull. I got 1/8 inch thick aluminum to put over the runners. After that its onto paint for the hull. Then flip and reattach the oar locks grass rails and the decoy racks. She is getting close to the maiden voyage can't wait
