I have many very good memories of the old ODCCA Westlake show. One of my favorites is when Buckeye Joe, made himself comfortable in a chair in my room and held Court. His room was very close to mine that year. I learned a Lot that day, all I had to do was shut up, listen, and pay attention. The man was a Legend in his own time. I'm very thankful for having met him.

Geoff - I'm a sucker for Decoys with thin stylish necks (it's very Old School) . Even though the feeling is, that they are too delicate & break easily. That's a damn Fine Can.

Love the decoys Brandon and Geoff! Tons of style points:)

I finally finished that BWT after finding inspiration in Illinois - thanks Pat for the museum tour! My BWT is patterned after the great Charlie Moore. His decoy is pictured below my decoy on the stand. I definitely copied the body but painted what I saw to be a BWT from my photographs. It will get an antique wash in a few weeks once the oil paint cures.

Just 2 more to go and I'll have a small coat-pocket-rig for the marsh...and that makes me happy.

here's an addition to the merg rig. He will float in a couple of weeks when we hunt the Gulf. Now need to make a hen and move on to whistling ducks.

The Don King of the duck world. After thinking about it I'm a little frightened that I figured out what it was without a clue other then it being you. Scary that I can get my mind in that mode. :)

Great month once again everyone. It's always interesting to see what is new on this thread when it moves back to the top.

Nice work everyone. I like the Mallards Roy.

Here is another Christmas present, not sure how it floats and doubt it self Rights! ;.)

I've got a new helper this year so my slow production is now even slower..

but we managed to finish up this ringer after she went to sleep last night.

OK.......that's it. Children, hand made Christmas gifts, and Good food. At this time of the year - It doesn't get much better. Thanks fella's for keepin' it REAL. Tis the Season!

This year was a little calmer than last year and I even managed to make a few more decoys. Sadly, they were all completed long after the duck season ended here in Northern MN, but they'll see plenty of action next year!

I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing holiday season!

Here is a Hollow-cedar Canvasback drake I made to raffle off in support of the new student chapter of The Wildlife Society here at Bemidji State.

Here it is with some clothes on...

Here's a cork Redhead drake for next year's rig, saw a whole bunch this year but didn't get any to come in!

A couple of Mergansers to round out the rig.

I'll post some more in January and February as we're running two decoy carving weekends with the students!

as the temp gauge hovers in the single digits I finished some painting inside. Just in time for Christmas gifts in two days.

both of the little ladies wanted a BBgun and a swan decoy. Guns were purchased last week, swans were finished this morning. Far from a gunning sized swan decoy but at this size their Mother will allow them in the house. :)
