February "What's on your Workbench?"

Chris,
It has been a pleasure having you and your girlfriend over to learn about carving and you guys are always welcome. The decoys look alot better than my frist decoy.
Thanks Pete

Larry that hen is one of your best so far, keep working at it.

Chris, nice Black ducks. I'm sure you worked hard on them and it looks like you have a great teacher, Jode

Here is the Drake RB Merganser finished this month as well.

I believe it's from Brazil. Part of the rosewood family. Pretty dense stuff that will blunt lathe tools pretty quickly, but that density made the calls sound great. Got it from the same guy (the stockmaker) who gave me the English walnut. One of the guys using his shop to make furniture had left some cutoffs behind.

Jode,
I just checked my references on the Labs and you really nailed them.

Very cool project. I bet you enjoyed them. Having been through the class with you last summer its a lot of fun to look at your work.

Nine decoys on my bench right now.

Jode , they are brilliant.. Can't keep my eyes off them any chance we could see some more photos of them?? Please.

John, yep not to many guesses there, LOL!

Larry, Paul, Brandon, Thanks. ( A busy bench makes for a happy carver)

Yes, they're not my first Labs, I've done lots of different pairs, but doing the Juvenile's was a little different.

Not a ton of info out there, but enough to get in the artistic ballpark so to speak.

Paul, Here's a couple other shots.

Thanks Jode, again their very good.

I take it their on their way to that university guy who collects all the Labrador carvings. I read somewhere he is or has done a book about his collection. Is that right or did I dream it.

Any more, top views, front on, on this computer there is a blue sheen to the heads is that right or am I dreaming again.

Paul, headed to a Md. collector, he's over 100 pairs now and counting.

Sheen maybe from the lighting, mostly shades of brown. I'll get a few more pics in a day or so and email them, Jode

Some excellent work on here as usual!!! I really appreciate you guys for posting up your work, it's inspirational for an aspiring young man like myself!

I started working on a new project last week. I posted the pattern I drew up for this one earlier. I got all my pieces cut out and glued up and am ready to make the foam start flyin'!
