Hurricane Sandy

Prayers out to the coastal people that they stay safe. My concern inland in CT is if the vodka supply will hold out....

I met a woman today who is a neighbor of a friend of mine. Her husband is skipper on an 800+ foot container ship on its way from Europe to the East Coast today. She skyped with him last night somewhere out east of Newfoundland and he was turning around and headed back towards Spain at very slow speed. He said he had plenty of company as all the North Atlantic traffic marked time waiting for this to clear out.

Keep you heads down and watch out for downed lines.

eye made it through dover a while ago, now veering northwest-- Lots of flooding in delawhere--Should be interesting seeing what some of the coast looks like once this BLOWS over.

Hope it all turns out okay. The work before and after the storm has to be tremendous and we wish you good luck and stay safe.

Very, very minor here, nothing like the coast - there aren't good reports yet, but it is supposed to have been bad. Lot of folks we know along the coast have been evacuated, but we haven't heard how things are.

I woke up to the almost deafening hum of gensets from every direction - our town in 97% out. We personally lost 2 large colorado blue spruces, which woudln't have been a big deal if they were not in our big garden fence. I was going to take those spruces out this winter beacuse I knew they were going to take the fence out. Lost several very large white pines up by the road, lot of hangers.

Last night we watched what must have been a house fire up on the hill, trucks heading in the direction and the whole sky way lit up orange for a long time. Very disturbing.

My family and I have come out the other side of the storm with all flags flying. We are only a couple miles from water and the winds were pretty strong last night but we were very lucky. The storm went north and we were on the southwest quadrant which gets the weaker side of the storm. My thoughts and prayers to everyone north of us as you try to put things back together.

I didn't read all of the posts yet but there is one very big glaring thing I've niticed on all the news reports I've watched this evening. Contrary to Katrina and New Orleans I haven't heard a single person complain about there situation after the storm. The loss is amazing. There was a lot of wind here in Ohio particularly on our north shore Lake Erie. The worst I had is it blew off the winter cover on the pool and I didn't have electric at work today. There saying it will be on sometime tonight. I hope so. I have two boats to hopefully complete this week. Good luck to all on the east coast.

Tom.

Yes Dave, it looks like we got over like a fat rat in a cheese factory. All I got up here was a day off. prayers to everyone who got hit.

Howard I wish I was on that side of VA. We got hit hard on the bayside of the ES. Tangier, Deep Creek, and Saxis areas all under water. Harborton where I live got flooded as well but as far as I know it stopped just short of everyone's homes. Our highest tide came Sunday mid day when it stopped feet from my house. If the wind hadnt come around SW I would have been flooded out. Sadly we had a few drown here on the shore when the water rushed into homes half way up the windows. Prayers to all those who were in its path and those still getting the reminants.

I just read some stuff on Hoboken NJ. Quite a few are upset that they have not recieved their meals on wheels yet. Appears to be a mix of old folks and hipsters/yuppies. But that is it so far, so quite a bit different than 2005.

Coastal Rhode Island took a pretty hard hit.

I just got power back, but tons of people still without it.

I took a bunch of pics but don't have Internet back at the house yet.

Hope everyone is ok.

Here are a few pics from the last couple days. We were very lucky were I live. It is much much worse north of us.

I haven't seen too much structure damage. Plenty of water damage from flooding and lots of beach erosion. Lots of damage to docks and decks along the bay front. Marine construction guys will have plenty of work for a while.

This boat had snapped its dock lines. We found it on an island out in the middle of the marsh.

After being stuck inside for a few days the dog was very happy to get out of the house and go for a boat ride and a swim.

anybody need grass for their blinds? the next one is looking toward delaware bay, usually that is about 3 miles out. the tide has gone back down since then and all is normal. I have not been able to get there yet, but will this weekend.

We have a backhoe coming this weekend to push that stuff out of the way. I am curious to see if the channels and creeks changed when I can get out there. We have some rehab work but not bad.
