I don't think this is a discussion about requiring anything; but rather about states choosing to allow the use of supressors and the pro's & cons of choosing that option when applicable to hunting.

I agree Bob, there is no mandate to use silencers in the proposed legislation/regulations being discussed. The point I, and I think Frank, are tossing out there is that if anti's see an opportunity they may try it. Out here in the anti-gun states they would see this as a win-win, just make it mandatory for hunting, no more pesky noise to wake them up. Then the "benefit" of getting every gun owners name and collection on record. For the children.

Having said that, I hope it becomes legal as I do feel bad early in the morning when we cut loose with a volley 100 yards from somebody's house (legal in CT at 250' in tidal areas when hunting waterfowl). Right now there's no way to avoid it short of not hunting, and I can see how folks get aggravated.

Is it even possible to put a suppressor on a shotgun? I seriously doubt it (wads getting stuck in the vanes & baffles) and even it you did, it would make the barrel extremely front-heavy.

Yes, I was aware of that. But, without a suppressor on it, my shotgun is not registered. Technically, no one knows I have it or how many I have. But, once the gun is altered to accept a suppressor, it is required to be registered. Essentially, it's back door registration of sporting arms.

Not unlike looking at your credit card for ammo or gun cleaning supply purchases, checking to see of you own a hunting license, are a member of a sporting club or are a member of the NRA. Yeah, owning a silencer will really tip them off to my gun owning ways.
