Jarhead encounters a road side ambush

Jarhead climbed aboard the transport vehicle along with three dozen of his comrades. His transport vehicle was a trailer-ed Chuck Huff sneakbox being pulled by his temporary CO in a 1/2 ton Ford pickup. This small group had just left headquarters and was making good time towards their destination when out of nowhere they were ambushed.

The ambush was executed by a single deer acting alone and in the shadow of the night. Damage was extensive and put the tow vehicle temporarily out of commission. Thankfully the CO and his soldiers escaped uninjured.

There will be some scrambling tomorrow to get things back on track. Hopefully a rental tow vehicle can be located so that the mission can continue as planned.

Dang, I hate it when shit happens. (excuse my french).

Dang Dave, at least your Huff box was spared....Prolly covered in deer blood spatter and hair. Maybe when the truck gets fixed you put one of those fancy deer killers on the front..

I thought about that happening this morning on the way to the river...55 minutes through WI farm country with the bucks chasing the does seriously right now.

Well did they deer live to tell his side of the story? All kidding aside glad you weren't hurt and I hate it when "French word" happens too.

Geeze...that was a deer...not a herd, or a waterbuffalo, or a punk ass kid driving way too fast... The damage to the grill and light assembly seems normal for a deer, but I can't get over how twisted the bumper is. Dang, glad you're okay.

Best of luck on the rest of your "adventure"

Chuck

Sure glad that you were not hurt. My first thought was----Built Ford tough and the deer walked away. I remembered that in Wisconsin this was prime time for the deer to be in rut. Is it the same time frame in Iowa, Dave? Sorry this happened to you.

Don't you know that bumpers now days are just "trim"? Ya, It wiped out the hood and radiator too. I didn't try popping the hood to check for any engine component damage. Pushed part of the bumper into the left front tire. The deer actually was stuck in the pocket created by the missing grill. He only fell out as I was slowing to pull onto the shoulder. At least the coons and possums will not have to "chew before swallowing". :>)

Dave,

What a mess! Glad you're okay. It's that time of year for sure. Deer are starting to show up on the highways all over. I'm amazed at the amount of damage though. Must be one of Fords better ideas to make the whole vehicle a crumple zone. You know now to never attempt to push anything with your front bumper.

Dave, glad that the CO and jarhead and his platoon escaped injury in the ambush. That sucks. I hope jarhead gets some amphibious operations during his tour of duty and does not have to spend his time on a desk job while in Iowa.

Wow Dave, Glad you are OK. Don't supose there was any salvage to the deer? I was passenger in a near miss Tues eve. too, it really is amazing how quick they can come out of nowhere. Tues was especially weird because we had been looking for them for several days without sucess and then there was one almost in the headlights. New trucks sure do fold up don't they?

Dave,

Glad you ok.
If you need parts, it looks like we will have plenty of spare auto parts around the island. You just need to hose the saltwater and sand off.

Should have had a Front End Replacement on it.. there would have been zero damage....

YaYa, I suppose had I been driving a juiced up Dodge Ram,,,,,,,,,,,,, I could have just driven over the deer in the same manner as a roadway speed bump. Followed by my Chessie cleaning up the roadkill for a light snack.

John,

I believe all the parts are still there. There as in there at the point of impact slightly scattered and bent. :>)

Wow, lucky to make it out of that one without any injuries. Countless times I have missed deer on the way to a duck hunting spot, it almost feels inevitable that it will happend at least once...

Thats Jarheads second deer this year as he was along for a tracking excursion when I had him, perhaps I should have warned you first.
