June Workbench

Wow… 5 days in and still no workbench thread? Guess I’ll kick it off.

I finally got my hen stripped down and repainted.

Moving on to the 2nd decoy I ever made now. The neck broke a while back and the paint I was using back then blistered so it’ll get a pretty serious overhaul. I doweled it but didn’t like how much epoxy putty I was going to have to cram into cracks but it lined everything up nicely for the bandsaw.

Got a few canvas decoys in various stages I intend to chip away at.

Also knocked out a quick bookmark from curly maple and a busted fan so I can keep my place.

Im not quite done with my pieces, but hope to have them darn close, if not done, by the end of the weekend. Then Ill be designing and making more. Stay tuned.

Finished these the last week of May.
I actually finished carving these birds in June of 2025 thinking I would have them ready to paint while recovering from July of '25 surgery.
Back then, I didn't think it would take so long to finally be where I was able to carve & paint again, but it sure is good to be back at it.

Great to see you back after it Bob. Prayers for continued recovery.

here are a few from the past two weeks, all hunting decoys and double flocked. My son Caleb is doing nearly all the airbrush work while I do all the carving, sculpting, and detail work on hen heads for the most part.

Still cannot get over the vermiculation on those pintail. Theres airbrushing and then theres next level mastery airbrushing. Stunning work your boy does sir.

That lifted feather in the mallard mouth is really really nice as well. Love that look!

STUNNING!!

That is one BEAUTIFUL bird !!!
Very complex and detailed work, especially with the airbrushing... Unique colors not commonly seen in the waterfowl world.
You've done yourself proud. WOW, WOW, WOW.
The recipient in California will be very happy with that.

So adding geese to the spread. First half dozen done. Still have a few touch ups to make but these are about wrapped up too. Open bill design is thanks to you Mr. Heitman. It’s an awesome awesome design of a bill and so proud to have it in the spread next year incorporated in some of my own decoys.
