Live Trap Skunk Removal - NDR

I was really looking forward to playing with the .17 HMR. Fortunately she has not vetoed pigeon removal around the barn by shotgun. Perhaps if the woodchuck starts pooping on a box of stuff she cares about, like the pigeons did, I can negotiate better terms.
 
A slight departure from sniper perches but still related to skunk...my uncle Ray.
Uncle Ray was a retired Vietnam vet who suffered greatly from PTSD. In his later years he decided that he wanted to become a trapper. Apparently skunks are kind of the panfish of the trapping world because that is all he ever caught. I will never forget the day he pulled up in his brand new Dodge Ram, though only a week old, already reeking of skunk. I asked him, how much he paid. His reply, which still cracks me up, "I didn't buy, I leased it."

I have full support from the wife in sitting on the deck with a 12ga through the night until the raccoon issue is resolved. Now the neighbors and the DNR, maybe not so much although the raccoons are covered under a nuisance permit supplied by the DNR.

Long story short is that this weekend my son ended up live trapping a skunk at his house fully expecting to catch an opossum. I got the phone call that there was a skunk in the trap and not a opossum. Drove over to his house and I successful covered, transported, and released the adult skunk without it spraying. I feel like a skunk whisperer!! LOL!!
 
This all has me thinking that doing skunk removal as a retirement gig might not be too bad. There is definitely a need in our area as our only "critter getter" business shut down due to the operator getting a big promotion at his regular full time job. Per google--professional skunk removal costs between $300 and $600 on average for standard live trapping and relocation. Do this once or twice a week would definitely make for a nice amount of retirement play money.

Just out of curiosity I called my mom to ask her whatever happened to Uncle Ray's new pickup after he passed. Apparently the leasing company had it totaled and sold for parts. They were, in her words, "NOT HAPPY!"

(y) In addition to making a mess, both are a source of angst with dogs. The only point in a woodpussy's favor is when he digs up a yellow jacket nest, but I'm ok with dealing with those terrorists myself. Both Rocky and Pepe need to relocate to another plane of existence when hanging around the house.
 
The "retired" critter getter guy in our area told me that city skunks are 100% easier to remove than country skunks. Per him, city skunks are used to the sights, sounds, smells, movement of people, etc. He also told me that he never had a city skunk spray, only country skunks. If he were to start up again, he said he would only remove city skunks.
