The first day of our season was an absolute zoo. I had a friend ride along with me, went out an hour and a half earlier than normal, still boats everywhere. Needless to say, we didn't shoot a thing. Next day {Sunday}, I slept late, sat around and had coffee with my wife, did a few chores around the house, and basically called the first weekend a loss. About noon I couldn't stand the suspense. I hooked my boat up to the car, loaded my chessie Diesel up and headed off to lake Okeechobee. As I was running out I saw a few nice bunches of ringers getting up. I found a nice spot to hide, threw out a few decoys, and had a limit of ringers and bluebills in an hour or so. This was Diesels first duck of the season. Diesel likes guns a lot more than cameras, thus the shy look on his face. All in all a great afternoon hunt. Quiet, no crowds at the ramp almost had the whole place to myself, Just don't get no better than this! Rich

Next day {Sunday},
Anyone who can legally hunt on Sunday should never complain about a bad Saturday hunt! ;) Some of us live in states whose laws are from the 1600's puritan perspective.

Good looking dog, and congrats on a good hunt!

Awesome job. Pup looks good too.

No hunting on sunday means scouting and a great hunt on monday when everyone else is at work.

It gives the birds a chance to rest so i can scout them it also draws out our season.

Im complaining about a 60 day season when the west coast get a 107 (though i understand why that is) or so day season. At least we have 2 zones, RI gets really screwed.

All of our best hunts were on monday. They get pounded on saturday until they find a spot where they dont get shot at then sit there on sunday till we see them. Then on monday we get them. In CT to get more that a bird or 2 you have to scout the day before. You shoot more on the scouted hunt than you will if you just hunted for 2 days.

It would be different ina state with good duck #'s. Our total duck take for the year ~8 thousand ducks. Arkansas mallard harvest~600 thousand( i think those numbers were 2012?)

I cant even imagine that.

Great picture Rich! Gorgeous pup too!

I'd rather let the weekend warriors have the morning fight........uh, I mean flight. Mid morning / mid day is the strategy I use on public water and it works for me.

I LOVE Dog pics!

And that is a pretty good one!

Not sure where the "no hunting on Sunday" thing came from, and I'm not complaining now, but I kinda liked it when we couldn't hunt on Sundays. That allowed the season to run an extra week or so, and I like to do a little fishing too. In the fall one can usually find a few monster Perch in nearby Lake Erie proper, while the streams run silver with Steelhead in the fall. I only have so many days off work.

Back to the subject, that sounds like a good way to spend an afternoon!

That was my bad, I was just busting his chops because I'm completely jealous. Didn't intend to hijack the thread.
