Guys,
Blessed Christmas to you all. As a Lutheran pastor, I am up to my neck in services at Christmas so I covet the very idea of a Christmas Eve hunt ala Steve Sanford. Not in the cards for me.
But a post Christmas hunt is in the cards as a Christmas present.
I decided earlier this fall to leap out of my South Carolina environs and do a guided hunt in North Carolina between Christmas and New Year's.
I talked a friend in Virginia into going with me. We are going to use a guide in the Outer Banks for a two day hunt near Kitty Hawk.
Given El Nino, my expectations of shooting birds are low. But it will be my first duck excursion in 6 years. So I am pumped! it will be great just to see inky waves of birds in the sky again.
Leaving Sunday after my duties are finished, driving to Chesapeake, VA to drop off my wife at her sister's house. Getting picked up Monday by my friend for the quick drive to the Outer Banks.
I have never been to the OB so that in itself will be adventure for me.
I have learned from many previous hunting trips that you do your best job planning and then go with the flow of weather, bird movements, and all the other things we can't control.
I plan on having fun no matter what.
And that is a great Christmas present!
