November Workbench thread

Well the weather wasn't the greatest to be outside today so we turned the heat on in the garage and got to work. My girlfriend and I started carving a Canvasback a few weeks ago got most of it done now just need to some finish head work and a bunch of sanding . My buddy Colin Fitzpatrick had started to make a few buffies for our rig, he has got one of the three he cut out ready for finish sanding and then paint. Also got a goldeneye I started back in January finished up ready for the rig in a few weeks

I dont usually post here, but wes and i had a pretty productive day yesterday and here is my second attempt at a bufflehead. I tried to put a tucketon influence into the bird when i carved the body and tail. Now i just need to finish sanding and get started on the other two i have roughed out. I know this is nowhere near the work that you guys do, so im open to some constructive criticism!

Finishing more puddlers. Plan is to have have plenty of painting to do through the winter. May carve up a few more as time allows.

The "real" season on the River begins this coming weekend. As usual, I'll wait 'til during next week to get out.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of decoys to check over; lines, swivels, & weights to get ready; and decoy bags to sort through 'til then.

Bob - Love the attitude on the puddler. Lift the bill and the head a bit, it does wonders for the attitude of the decoy. Also, love the ringers. They'd look great in my layout rig... Keep up the good work Coach! Pat

Bob~

Your productivity astounds - and I love the attitude of those birds, too.

Question: Do you hollow your cork birds?

Al the best,

Steve,
One of the perks of retirement is that there's usually time each day to spend in the shop. :) No hollowing on cork. I do peg all the heads & tailboard through the bottom boards with hardwood dowels, though.

While technically not on the work bench but associated with it. I took a day off of hunting yesterday to rebuild and install shelves in the new boat shed/shop for the cork rig. My birds aren't the masterpieces but they do get hunted.

And added the corks to it tonight after today's hunt.

Brad, it looks like your master plan is coming together nicely. That shop looks about the same size as the Ford Motor Co.

Those salivary glands started working overtime when I saw all those decoys, Bob. Good luck next week.

Brad B..you are going to run out of wall space before you get all the corks up there....where is that Brant rig?

Just a quick update for the almost end of the month: Shaped, heads mounted on a 1-1/4" dia. closet rod pillars down to the bottom boards w/ 4.5" long ss screws & tight bond II. Sealed and then painted with the first primer coat. I still hope to have these ready to float w/ Lord Yooper in RI. Maybe not with the final paint job, but better than plastic.
