Working with @Steve Sanford and @Dave Diefenderfer we have added significant information to the Resources section by including Steve's decoy color charts and tutorials. If you click on the Resources link at the top of the page and then look to your left you will see there are new categories under "Decoy Making." These links take you to Steve's incredible decoy painting charts and tutorials. In case you missed it, Steve has developed decoy paint schemes that use BEHR eight oz. paint samples available at any Home Depot. This gives those of us who are artistically challenged a by-the-numbers approach that greatly simplifies decoy painting and increases the likelihood of creating something eye-pleasing. Thank you Steve for sharing your talents and packaging them in a way to help the common duck hunter.

I have been looking at Steve's foam decoy pictures. I am recently retired and making my first foam decoy. I have learned a lot from him pictures. If it wasn't for his pictures, I would have gave up. HIs paint schemes is another reason for me trying this. It's hard to teach a old dog new tricks. Hardest part so far was the tail, but I have survived. I'm not too far from paint. I will post pictures when I'm done. A big thanks to Steve.

Makes me wish that I was artistically inclined! Some day I hope to have a beautiful carved decoy for my mantle but until then I just enjoy watching others work and perfect their craft. RM

Eric et al~

It has been my pleasure to develop and share these paint charts over the years. Although I have made them for most NA species, I have not had the time in recent years to post them all on my own website. Nevertheless, I have sent them out regularly to anyone who has asked. And, I thoroughly enjoy it when they send back photos of their results. It's one way I have been able to help those who help themselves. It's a special kick when the decoy painters are young.

So, I hope would-be decoy painters find them here - and use them as they need them.

Thanks for adding these to this wonderful site!

Thank you Steve, such a great resource and gift to this community of waterfowlers. It helps to take the mystery out of some of the colors we can't decipher.
