Starting the AA Broadbill project

When the weather starts getting cool in the mornings, the projects don't stop coming. Remade the blind on my big boat. Went a lot lower profile than the original which also allowed me to make the top opening much smaller. Also made a removable rain roof that is not in the photos. Took about 3 days of sewing, measuring, sewing, measuring,... Glad it is done as the old blind was 20 years old and needed to be replaced many years ago.

Now if I can just find the time to carve some new decoys......

took some time but finally put it in the water. the 25HP is WAY too much power for it. I would much rather have a 9.9 or 15 on the back but sometimes you just have to go with what you have. the little 25 was pushing 30mph and if I could have got the trim right I think it would have picked up another few MPH. Cruises nicely at about 15MPH and the Evinrude seems to like that pace as well.launched.jpg

Thanks found it online.

Also picked up my Coosa board today so the transom rebuild will start as soon as I can get back to the shop.

Started working on cleaning up the top half of the boat to get it ready for paint. Overall it is in good shape, just a few chips in the gelcoat. I do know that the front deck is a little warped. I think the prior owner had something heavy sitting on it for a while and it took the crown out of it. I am going to need to figure out how to build a support to go under it so that I can get the correct shape back. Based on early measurements, I will be able to support it from the floor but figuring how tall/high to make the support is going to require placing the top half on to get exact measurements.
Scott what do you do to correct the front deck warp? I just picked up 1990 broadbill and I have the same issue. TIA

was not able to get it out. the support is provided by the flotation foam which was cracked. I had the top sitting on supports to see if gravity would bring it back to shape, but it did not hold. the only answer I could come up with was to put a support under it, but I didn't do it yet. I may still try it, if I don't sell the boat before I get around to it. I find that I am not using it like I thought I would. I am just too accustomed to hunting out of my big boat. And my 25hp is just way to much motor. been looking for a older 9.9 but people in my area are a little proud of their 1970s 9.9s for my liking

9.9s & 15s are a dime a dozen down here in peninsula FL.
Seems like a lot of older guys move down to retire from up north and then don't ever use them.
Long drive for a motor but you could probably buy 3 for what guys in north Alabama (or even Mobile) want for them.

agree and same thing is true if you look to the north. For some reason, they are considered "collector items" in this area regardless of condition. I asked a guy if he would take $200 for a non-running spray can panted one (looked complete but very rough) and I think I insulted him. Got back an "ARE YOU SERIOUS" comment.
