The night before Duck Season

Most of us have been doing this for a long time. I would like to know if any of you have a tradition for the Night Before Duck Season. Old traditions are welcome also. Back it my younger days around these parts of Up State NY . There use to be so many house parties. As a young man I use to go to these old timers houses to hear stories of Days gone bye. But they were so great and told so wonderful. I felt like I was there with them. I will not lie a few of the boys didn't get up to go the next morning. They always use to say : they had a secret spots they couldn't tell us about. And always limited out. We never cared and enjoyed every minute of them. As I got older I use to have my own get together at my camp. Then later on we all went to duck camp and sleep over the night before. They were the best times in my life for duck hunting. We drink a few eat a ton and always got up to go hunting in the morning. Most of those old boys are hunting with God up in heaven now days. And I think about them all the time and miss them just as much. Its up to us to carry on our traditions. I hope you all have a great and happy healthy season. To the young man and women if your just starting out. Take time to talk to a old timer. We are people too. And the stories we have could be yours someday. God Bless

We Geezers have witnessed more sunrises than we can count.

That we are able to wake up for another first day is a Blessing. [smile]

Here's to the Season of 2018.

Salude!

back in my younger days; we used to go to the marsh and have a camp fire in the parking lot, grill out, have a beer or two and wait until midnight. here in Iowa; you can't go out with your duck boat and decoys until midnight. at midnight we would go out to "hold our spot" and sleep in the boat. or at least try to. I could never get more than a couple of cat naps in; when I tried sleeping in the boat. even with the lids closed and the heaters going and it was nice an comfortable; I just couldn't get used to the sound of the waves slapping the side of the boat and the dog or one of my buddies snoring away. needless to say; I haven't done that in years but I will still get to the landing at 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. which beats out 75% of the guys. it's just the young guys that do the midnight run and I don't meet that qualification anymore

For the past 20 years I have made the trip to Klamath Lake for the opener. I camp and hunt with a good friend and the past 5 years or so my dad has joined up with us and last year my hunting partners son and my son now join us. I normally will not hunt with a party of more than 3, but I make an exception for this trip. I look forward to it every year. We get there Thursday night scout around the lake on Friday and relax then hunt Saturday and Sunday. The only problem this year is that I only have 2 days to get ready and have not done a thing. I hope I can find everything that I need! I started making the trip when I was going to OSU in Corvallis. Now I live in Vancouver, WA and the drive is bit longer but worth it every year.

Salude!

[size 6] Amen to that, Vince

Thankful for sure, and looking forward to another season. Starting to lose too many of the good people I've known as a waterfowler.

Bob -

I hear thee.

All but one of my old gunning partners have gone to the "Happy Hunting Ground".

The decoy community has some huge gaps where many of the great ones were...

It's up to us to carry on for those that have left, and at times that is a heavy weight to carry, but we do.

The Geezer Squad carries on, with the will of GOD.

Best regards
Vince
