Thanks Will, I'm Just taking my chances to go when I can. Today was black duck after black duck. Then a lonely couple teal came to play. They are not quite as pretty after being picked up by the dog in low tide mud.
Great photos - causing just a touch of envy here in eastern New York. Our second "half" was a bust. Although I passed on a couple of good opportunities, I mostly came home without shots fired. Then, Mother Nature declared an early end to the season....
First came a big batch of snow. We had about 26 inches on the flat - but many of my friends just a few miles north were in the 3-foot range.
I was very glad for the stove in my shop. It'll help when storing the gear and cleaning the fowling pieces. In recent days it has kept Santa comfortable as he wrapped presents away from prying eyes.
Beautiful pictures Steve, Jode, and everyone.
I had a nice Christmas eve hunt. We only got about a foot of snow from that last storm, and the rain tonight and tomorrow will take care of that. Anyways, I had a great hunt today, we won't talk about yesterday, lol.
Merry Christmas & Happy Hanukah.
Started hunting at the end of November (IN South Zone opener was the 28th), so we're about a month in with a good run still to go (late goose runs 'til Feb. 11).
Did my week of palm frond-only decoy hunts last week in honor of the late Bobby Sutton who sent me my first load of fronds a long time ago. Bob would be glad to see that they still pull 'em in.
Got to hunt with one of my sons on Christmas Eve and that is always a treat.
This is indeed a special year, simply because of the privilege it is to return to the marshes 10 months removed from heart surgery. Puts things in a whole new light. [] I've been averaging two or three outings each week, and feel better than I have in years! I think my son was a bit taken aback to see me poling the boat in 6" of water all over a cove we set up in that the mallards wanted into. He offered to take over the pole, but I had a point to make.
A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of having some ladies do a sea duck hunt. They had traveled from such states as Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Louisiana. Day one was our first real Nor-Easter of the season dropping 20" of snow but we did pull off the next two days with some action packed shooting.
Here, one of the women awaits the next group of sea ducks.
