What is in your bag? December 2020

Wow Jode, what did you do, hit them with one pellet? They?re very pretty, you wouldn?t know they were shot.

All~

Great photos - causing just a touch of envy here in eastern New York. Our second "half" was a bust. Although I passed on a couple of good opportunities, I mostly came home without shots fired. Then, Mother Nature declared an early end to the season....

First came a big batch of snow. We had about 26 inches on the flat - but many of my friends just a few miles north were in the 3-foot range.

Getting to most gunning spots - even after one had dug themselves out at home - was virtually impossible.

Some of the snow had the temerity to raft up on our roofs.... Son Ben helped with the shoveling aloft.

Then, Mr. Mercury hunkered down below zero - about 4 degrees below.

All that snow and precious little heat sealed up all the larger rivers and brooks. Reports of "new arrivals" from points South came my way....

I was very glad for the stove in my shop. It'll help when storing the gear and cleaning the fowling pieces. In recent days it has kept Santa comfortable as he wrapped presents away from prying eyes.

I hope you all enjoy and safe and happy holidays - and some good gunning if you're still open!

Beautiful photos Steve, thanks for sharing.
Makes me a little homesick for northeast PA thats for sure.

Merry Christmas!!

Spectacular, Brad - congratulations!

After all these seasons, such birds still take my breath away.

Merry Christmas, indeed!

Started hunting at the end of November (IN South Zone opener was the 28th), so we're about a month in with a good run still to go (late goose runs 'til Feb. 11).

Did my week of palm frond-only decoy hunts last week in honor of the late Bobby Sutton who sent me my first load of fronds a long time ago. Bob would be glad to see that they still pull 'em in.

Got to hunt with one of my sons on Christmas Eve and that is always a treat.

This is indeed a special year, simply because of the privilege it is to return to the marshes 10 months removed from heart surgery. Puts things in a whole new light. [;)] I've been averaging two or three outings each week, and feel better than I have in years! I think my son was a bit taken aback to see me poling the boat in 6" of water all over a cove we set up in that the mallards wanted into. He offered to take over the pole, but I had a point to make.

Good morning, Bob~

Congratulations on some great hunts over great rigs. Those birds look sweet on the water.

All the best,

SJS

Bob,

Good for you.

Feels good don't it?

Just a bit of advice.

Don't let yer energy, and yer brain out do yer heart, as it is easy to do. [;)]

A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of having some ladies do a sea duck hunt. They had traveled from such states as Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Louisiana. Day one was our first real Nor-Easter of the season dropping 20" of snow but we did pull off the next two days with some action packed shooting.

Here, one of the women awaits the next group of sea ducks.

Troy,

Very impressive, as well as the future of the lifestyle we so much appreciate, and enjoy.

Two Thumbs Way Up!
