Got told I can't go to work in the AM, essentially because the shitter's full. Started my 3 day weekend a few minutes ago. I enjoy several Highly Suspect songs. This video makes an awesome song better.
80s alt/prog rock got beat out by other stuff. Hair bands, MJ, Prince, the list goes on. My member berries of 1988 is all soft stuff, but I was only 5.Steven
Let's hope the building doesn't close for an extended period of time, like what happened when the water pipe broke. In the meantime here's a classic from a band that has a large catalog and is still going. The Church's Starfish album in 1988 exploded on the alternative rock scene but after it nothing really clicked with American audiences again. In fact, this song captures the vibe of alternative rock in the 80s so strongly I'm surprised it hasn't been plugged into movie soundtracks and commercials making it a much bigger part of pop culture. I've found a lot of their stuff before and after to be really good as well.
and another song from the same album...
This may be getting a little too personal. My member berries
Alternative rock lived on college radio and campuses in the 80s and bands like The Pixies, REM, Sonic Youth, etc., were a major influence on Nirvana and when they hit it they destroyed hair band popularity. So in truth alternative got a boost and broke out from college radio. I spoke to a professional musician (Barry Marler from Dreams So Real) about this and he said if his band came on the scene a few years later when radio got friendly to that sound he thinks they would have been bigger.80s alt/prog rock got beat out by other stuff.
