Whatcha Listening To?

Today this song is largely unnoticed with all the country music piping out of folks speakers. It would have been a banger back in the day. The guitar mid song it pretty darn good.

MICHAEL BLOOMFIELD If You Love These Blues Play 'em As You Please

Finishing up painting a Moor Hen decoy, and this CD fits the time & space of the day.

Big Star is commonly referred to as the greatest band you've never heard. For certain you've heard the acts they influenced. I wish I had found them in my youth but maybe I listen more closely these days to appreciate them.

In high school I don't remember a single friend of mine listening to Blue Oyster Cult. They knew who they were but nobody was in to them. I thought they were better than most of the metal bands getting played at the time. Maybe their lyrics were a bit too disparate.

This won't be for everyone's taste buds, but IMO, White Stripes and The Black Keys are the two best 2-member bands. Witness:

Both have such good music, if you've never partook of their albums. Jack White went out on his own after White Stripes called it quits. He is up there with the GOATs.

Speaking of GOATS, it's pretty hard to beat Mark Knopfler as a lead guitarist. I've had this long and live version of Sultans of Swing on regular rotation in the truck for long drives to trout ponds recently.

And I will never forget my first rock concert, age 14 or 15, when the Moody Blues had a new album out and were all the rage on top 40 radio. Some obscure white guy from Texas none of us had ever heard of opened for them. Damn glad I was young and stupid and showed up to see every minute of the unknown opening act. Completely stole the show. 1983, Portland, ME, Civic Center. Another long live one.
