What's on your Work Bench ? OCTOBER 2018

All beautiful work. Are you willing to share your berr paint colors for those greenwings? That bluebill head on the hen looks great by the way.

Good morning, Bob~

Great project - but please tell me more. Is the sealed urn placed inside the bird - and then you glue the rabbeted "hatch" into the bottom - have I got it right? (A friend wants me to put one of his dog's ashes into one of his gunning decoys.) Is the urn held in place by anything other than the "hatch" ?

Did you turn the urn, too?

All the best,

SJS

Dave -

Your "King Diver" rig looks good. Lots of attitude & style. The rig will do the job, and only improve with age.

Best regards
VP

It has been awhile since I've made/carved GE's, as I have what I need.

I recently found these not very good photo's, of a drake canvas/wire GE I made in 1997.

Sugar pine head, white pine frame, oil paint. It now resides in western PA.

It's not new to the bench, but when you revisit old decoys from your hand it can be new again.

[size 4]Thank you, Steve. Always fun to do one of these for someone who wants to remember a cherished hunting companion by doing something special.
Yes, the urn was turned from mahogany, then slip-case fitted into body cavity. Then, the black-walnut cover was epoxied in place to seal the cavity. A keel will be attached to the bottom of this decoy, so it will bisect the lid adding another "lockdown" to the compartment which will be water tight to begin with. As with all my gunning birds, this one will will be self-righting, etc. The recipient can hunt it if he so chooses.

Patrick -

I agree with DecoyMonsterMachine.

Floating Sculpture & Originality for sure.

Can't wait for action photo's, and the wonderful patina and honest gunning wear that makes em DECOYS.

Two thumbs way up.

Good morning, Derek and Xena~

Fabulous Whistler - in the thrall of love to be sure! (head over heels???)

All the best,

SJS

Thanks Bomber

If I recall, you and the rest of the Runamuck old crew, were at the pool with many of your gunning decoys.

Those Were The Days!

Good friends and fine Decoys.

May have to dig deeper for more photos from the film camera.
