What's on your WORK BENCH - SEPTEMBER 2020

Caroline~

Glad to help!

CANVASBACK is indeed Parker Marsh Grass on rails and interior - but Pettit Dull Dead Grass (3303) on the exterior.

The paint for the flat red bottom is no longer sold.....

Best of luck with those decoys!

All the best,

SJS

Steve~

Congratulations on your first vessel! Your Snoozing Woodie is a nice touch. I wish you many happy days afloat!

Taylor's Successful Waterfowling is truly one of my favorite books.

All the best,

SJS

Steve that's fantastic! Definitely inspiring stuff. Congrats! April - September seems like a pretty good clip for a build (especially a first). Thanks for the share.

Steven - thanks! I appreciate the confirmation. No red belly for me anyways, this will be a roll-on-fast paint job to get ready for the season. Maybe this winter the gunwales will be replaced with some grass rail and a little canvas on the bow and stern too.

Still waiting for you to make a stool with that rakish attitude, fella!

Me to!

Have all the material, and time, but how many decoys does a lifelong hunter need?

Thanks DMM.

Best regards

Vince

You can never have enough [;)]

Always a need to upgrade the flock , even occasionally. Ballard just sent me an image from some guy in the Rochester area that picked up 9 of my corks that were working up your way. Sweet 16 they are.
Come on paisan, you don't want to leave this world with all that unused wood, do you?[smile]

Vince,
I paid attention in math class and the algebraic formula is N+1, where N equal the amount currently owned. This equation also applies to shotguns, waders, duck calls, boats, etc. Caution though many a wife has tried to disprove this math. If challenged just throw out some names like Euclid, di Vinci, Galileo, and Purdey.

Thank you all for your posts.

Seems like my lack of hurried desire to spend many long hours in the shop, and painting has touched a nerve.

And rightly so.

A person does need "a good swift kick in the A$$", at times. Like my uncle Frank would say.

I did not pay attention in math class. Cuz I was to busy drawing, and daydreaming about hunting & fishing. Could be that is why I never equated money spent on things I like & love.

When I got much older the + 1 faded. Now things are replaced, when the old stuff no longer does it's job.

My wife has no problem with how many decoys, or outdoor gear of any kind that I have, make, or purchase. So I am blessed in that regard.

I have carving projects going, but not a rig (lord knows how many decoys/rigs I have, to hunt this or that).

I most certainly will take the advice, support, and thoughtfulness offered here under consideration.

As long as The Good Lord keeps me around, I'll do what I do. At a unhurried pace.

Cuz the Outdoors calls, and I gotta answer.

Best regards
Vince

Tomorrow, I go for a covid test after gym, so they can do the seed implants on Wednesday, which puts me in quarantine until then, SOOOOO, to avoid boredom l finish the balsa widgeon paint work, probably hack out either another drake, or a mate, AND watch Hopalong Cassidy and Premier league. This caca needs to go away. No doves, BUT, I found a neat spot next o silage field where squirrels were feeding. Might have to break out the old Winchester after the surgery--no bikes, motorcycling, or boating for a few days, but that doesn't mean I cannot see if I can still shoot the old 22.
Only problem is they seem a mite scrawnier than what eats off our bird feeders. Might upset the vecinos![;)][;)][w00t][angelic]

DMM,

Mary Lee and I hope and pray all goes well with you.

We know you'll stay busy.

Ya gotta hunt what there is, and yer Winchester .22 should do the job just fine.

I hear thee about the scrawnier squirrels than those that feast at the feeder.

Yesterday afternoon I passed on several young Grey's (even though they are delicious). They were having to much fun, so I just watched.

Lotta acorns in the woods, but close to the corn is where the plump ones be.

Frost advisory for tonight, so this afternoon hunt should be enjoyable.

Best regards
Vince

Well done, Kyle!

Those rounded ends - to complement the cockpit shape - and the spacing reveal your eye for good design. Congratulations!

SJS

Thank you Bob, much appreciated.

I'm looking forward to using your calls when the duck season comes in.

We already had a hard frost, so this warm spell is Indian Summer.

Acorns are dropping, leaves changing, but we need rain very much.

Best regards
Vince
