Just finished the Oliver 159 patternmaker lathe. Need to order some tooling to test it out. I think I have one cutter Dave McCann made me. I'll give it a try this week. Years ago when I was turning duck calls the precision needed for the 5/8" inserts drove me batty. The accuracy of this lathe makes that a thing of the past.

Wow, that looks great Eric. Green is appropriate as I'm Jelly as heck right now!

Does your wife know you had a pinup? Probably Actually at one point in time, these were indeed prevalent throughout the shop. Then one day a meeting was called, and all such items had to be removed or kept undercover of individual personally owned tool boxes.

Aside from a sea duck repaint, I'm pretty sure I haven't posted here regarding decoys. I'll simply leave the carving to the talented ones, but after Pearl passed I felt that I owed her to at least try to do a decoy urn. The wood is from a pine tree that came from my land, the tools used included a chain saw, a reciprocating saw, a grinder with various attachments, a sander and a few wood chisels I had laying around. This is where I'm at. It is more of a decoy time capsule as it contains all of Pearl's ashes, her collar, her favorite toy and her favorite snack. Will it float....I'm unsure at this point, but it will hunt with Quill and me on our first hunt together this fall, be it on the water or a shore decoy. The paint scheme will be a drake black duck for now.

It will be a black duck for the first hunt, then most likely be painted into a drake eider and accompany Quill and me on our sea duck trips. It really depends on how the black duck paint job comes out. I'm much more comfortable doing eiders.

I know right where it was made . Foot print is still there on Clancy street in GR. There are some Oliver machines in the public museum, and they stayed afloat after the woodworking machinery need slowed down by creating a unique bread slicing machine that some of the smaller commercial places around here still use .

SDR, our community kayak launch is not car accessible so I welded together a kayak bicycle trailer to get the kayak to the launch . I was out exploring some ponds in the marsh where I have seen wildfowl activity in the past.
