Workshop Construction

Thanks again guys. Bob nailed it. Perfect timing with duck season about to start. Another good thing is now that Thomas is on the HS baseball team no more middle school baseball on every Sat & Sun Feb-Apr. That will free up a ton of weekends for me before summer baseball starts.

Eric,

Shop looks great. I recall that this is reasonably close to your house so maybe security isn't too great of a concern since you could get their quickly if needed. With all you have in there you may want to consider a cheap dsl connection and one of these so you can peek in whenever you want.

I looked at the website but couldn't find what the camera interfaces with. They just show it plugged into 120. How is video data transferred from the device? How does it make it to my iphone? They mention cloud but it has to get on the cloud somehow. By the way, cell phone reception inside the building is terrible. Metal walls must disrupt the signal.

Basically the camera connects to Wifi. So you would need a basic DSL/broadband connection at the shop and a cheap wireless router. You may want this there for a variety of reasons. You plug the dropcam onto your wireless network and then fire up the app on your iphone. It pairs your iPhone app with your dropcam camera while on the same network. Then the camera streams your feed to the dropcam cloud service and anytime you fire up your app it knows which camera to show you. The stream feed is free and includes alerts (i.e., motion detected). You can pay for additional features like DVR of 30days, etc.

If you have wifi dropcam works great. They are very easy to install. You can set up an alarm to text you when it detects motion. You can set it up to remote recording or snap pictures if you want. The motion detector does not discriminate from actual movement or changing light levels. I have had increases in sunlight be detected as motion.

I figured I'd start a thread to photodocument the construction of my shop. Pictures will be added during the construction process and customization. First a little background information.

Eric, Didn't you say to me you wanted to photodocument building a Devlin Scaup and upload it to the net, circa 1978-79? Rubbish! Nobody will come. Let's call it duckboats.net.? ESPN? 24 hours of sports? Sure, tere are a few idiots that actually think duckboats, duckhunting, retrievers, and guns are interesting but where will we find them? Do you really think that 'if you build it, they will come? ' What a whackjob idea. Bwaaahaaahaaaa! Good luck with that
