Has anyone sent a barrel to Mike Orlen?

Yes, I've had Mike lengthen the forcing cones and open chokes on a Lefever Nitro Special. Quality work and cheap. I swear he received the barrels, did the work, and had them shipped back all in the same day.

    NDR--Upland Gun

Jeff, I'm heavily biased against semi-autos for upland hunting. I don't believe they should be carried in a New England grouse cover. A grouse gun should have a top-tang safety and a break action. It MUST be easy to "make safe" when you encounter stone walls, barbed wire, and nasty blow...

    More Uncle Ted

Judas Priest, Worth! What is your fascination with this guy? Song lyrics can be completely fictional and dabble in dark fantasy. They may be offensive. They may be disturbing. They may be provocative. But, it doesn't mean the author is a sociopath. Do you hold Johnny Cash to the same...

    Berreta Xtrema 2

Kevin, That has not been my experience with an Xtrema2. I've had one for 6 seasons and the only issues I've encountered were my fault. During its 3rd season I had a few light primer strikes. I did a complete strip and cleaned the bolt and firing pin. With annual maintenance that problem...

Great news, John! That brightened my day.

Some late season pics of Champlain hunts- more pics

Way to go, John and Cheech! I'm glad some folks had productive outings on Champlain this year. Tough season for me, but I did finally manage to harvest some bufflehead over your super flatties. Any trouble with ice build-up on the fixed boat blind?

Need thoughts 4 Sneakbox/duck boat design

If it's your first build, I'd shy away from an experiment. Try these: http://www.butlerprojects.com/boats/duckboat/index.htm http://www.butlerprojects.com/boats/montanaguideboat/index.htm

Question for the double gun guys (Tobin arms)

Jeff, Given the gun's vintage, is it likely chambered in 2 9/16" and NOT in 2 3/4"? In any event, I'd feed her 2.5" low-pressure shells.

Use of a dog to get up birds

This is an example of rallying: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGppj1PdZlA Of course, a good retriever would have dropped the passenger off on the far side of the pond with a pocket full of shells. No guarantee a lab wouldn't put the truck in the drink.

Ducks Unlimited - steady retriever ideas

Fair enough. But, what are you teaching unless you're following a plan with set goals? I'm not sure any of the "big names" claim that they have all the answers. But they present formats than amateurs can use as a general outline. BTW Jim, I'm not being snarky. I really enjoy your posts...

Ducks Unlimited - steady retriever ideas

I always envisioned you as someone who refers to ducks by their Latin name. Perhaps you've already reached the pinnacle of the sport?

Looking for 40+ mpg , Jetta? Cruz? ??

Pete, We've been very happy with our Honda Fit. It gets a little under 40 mpg (mixed driving) with snow tires and a little better with summer tires. It's a great compact wagon that will tote a TON of gear. Pretty short money too.

    blackjacks

Ringnecks are a real PITA to skin. I've found they are easier to pick than breast. Here in VT, they frequent areas with wild rice. As table fare, I find them to be on par with mallards and blacks.

    Question about Kara boats

Dani, I believe Ed Askew built an "ultralight" Hummer that was under 80#. He had a website documenting the build. You could probably build a Robber under 70#. Also checkout the "Duckboat" and "Montana Guide Boat" from Paul Butler. Little chilly in Jax yesterday?

First boat build discussion of 2012.

Brandon, If you think a "well boat" would be advantageous/safer for layout hunting, I'd consider either a Bartender or Simmons Sea Skiff also. Can't wait to see this project unfold!
