    Fly rod question

At one time many department stores carried bamboo rods. Unless your is pristine, it is probably worth $100 or less. Every one thinks bamboo is worth a fortune and some are, but this is like old hunting decoys, most aren't worth much, but a few are. Check the ferrels closely, many have fine...

    Oshkosh Decoy Show...

It gets worst. I took my camera, but don't know how to get the pictures from the camera to the computer. Daughter will help...after the delivery!

    making decoys

Rick it will work, but is a little extra work. Make sure that none of the wood is center cut ( small circle of early growth in the middle). Also use a soft wood such as white cedar or white pine. leave no gaps in the glue I found a shed where an old timer had glued 1" cedar boards...

    Ugarteburu Shotguns? Help!

I am not going to be a lot of help. The 12-76 is a 3" chamber, but most 12 ga Spanish guns are to light for 3". I don't believe Armas Ugarteburu's were imported into the United States (reason the chambers are listed in metric). You didn't list an importer, and the importers name is required...

    Double Barrel Double Discharge

Do you know how many pounds your trigger pull is? It should probably be at least 5lbs for a magnum 12ga. In addition the second trigger pull should be more than the first.( This is the case on double trigger guns, but I would expect the same for a single trigger.) W.W. Greener came up with...

    Grandfathers shotguns

John, On the Model 12 Heavy Duck, I would take it to a competent gunsmith. However remove the plug first. If it is original it is worth $100-$150. You can tell if it is original as it will have information on the gun written on it. replace the plug with a wooden dowel and set the original plug...

Anyone interested in a Mec Swap?

Will swap or buy used 10 ga Mec, with or without lifter kit. I have a 600Jr and a Sizemaster in 12 ga to trade.

    Beginning carving--cork or wood?

I thought I would join the fray. Wood is less expensive, though as stated, a little more elbow greases is needed to shape it. When you get the level of your wood decoys to the size, shape, and standards you want, you can buy the expensive high density cork and have an almost indestructible...

    Black Cork Decoy Pics?

You'll want to fill your large voids. Water freezing and thawing under the surface, will break down your cork and allow water to saturate. What Pete isn't telling you about his black cork, its higher density and better quality than you can get now. Hollywood is the largest user of black...

Who here uses Grayson Chesser's patterns?

I'm only familiar with Graysons mallards. I only use my own patterns, but have a friend who hunts over Graysons decoys. His design, with the "cone" back to remove weight from the sides is pure genius. The decoy has a normal side profile and a good overhead shape. The "cone" is only visible...

    SHOP SECURITY !

That is an interesting approach for dealing with thieves, however quite different from my approach. My shop is so messy, I can't find anything, so I figure thieves would run into the same problem. Clever gift!

    Favorite Brand of Goose Calls

Tim Ground's Guides Best Flute (this call is high pitched and cuts the wind well), Mike Weller Flute (good for open fields with moderate wind), or Charles Briskey Flute (good for small field or timber on the rivers where echoing is a problem), are my favorites. Flutes are now considered old...

    Looking for keel weights

Take a 2" thick piece of oak, hollow it to shape, wipe down with Crisco (first time only), pour in melted led, and you have your own keel weight that is as individualistic as your decoys. Hope this helps.

    The Sago decoy rig

I heard the saga of the Sago's during Marty's return trip. Nice to see them in pics. Sounds like you all had a nice early season hunt. Keep the pics flowing!

what would you get for a duck coat?

My old Ten X 4/1 parka which is 20 plus years old finally wore out. While studying numerous outdoor catalogs I noticed most of the advanced clothing is for bow hunters. They got rid of 4/1 coat systems some time back. I finally settled on Rivers West, but since they did not make my size, I had...

    Working Decoys doing the work.

Brandon, it is a blessed man who gets to live in the UP and hunt over his own handmade decoys with his son. Great pics!

    Lead source for anchors, etc

Bob, thanks for the tip. You are right about tire weights being more difficult to get. I also contact plumbers who replace showers with the one piece molded style. Old showers were lined with sheet lead, and while not heavy enough as is for large decoys, it can be re-melted.

Any one Using The Power Pole System For Duck Hunting?

Sorry, I do not possess the knowledge to post the Power Pole site here. Local dealer says they are $2400 per pair, but when compared to buying and island , or even some layout boats, that thing looks perfect for open water hunting out of a big rig. Just wondered if any one was using them?

Show me your open water grey painted rigs

Painted this last year. Personally, the color combo doesn't matter as much as the boat rolling in the waves.

    Vintage Duck Gun Post

George, I open the chokes on old doubles to .009 in the right barrel and .017 in the left and have used them for many years shooting steel with no problems. This gives you a lite mod and improved cylinder setup that shoots fairly tight with steel.
