Happy New Year what's on your workbench

Sean love that Can.
Jode, nice calls. When do the decoys start?

Here is my mess and I do mean mess of mergansers. Looking forward to cleaning some of them up tomorrow.

Here are three Cans I had mixed in to the pile I have going. Took them out and cleaned the sanding up on them.

Gonna be a real looker Bob, the cold has settled in here, good time to be in the shop by the woodstove...........

It has done me some good to see the canvas and pickle-weeds here. It has been again too long since I've done any serious work.

More paint on the Pike.

A little watercolor and acrylic I did of an unknown Hybrid Sunfish. Quick and just for a little fun.

we actually just start working on our pike marsh in ct. we cut up a big maple that fell over the entrance and we installed the flood gates to start holding the high tide water. the trap nets are getting mended and are probably going out next week if it warms up.

hybrids are my bosses favorite and they are some of the most gourgeous fish we have shocked up. i had a hybrid green/pumpkin seed that i took from the marsh drawdown last year and put in my tank. it killed everything in my tank except a brown bull head that hid in its cave, its name was "bowser"

that hybrid looks great i would say green/blue gill since theres no red on the opercle

you can tell a fisheries kid apart from a fisherman when he gets excited when he sees a commom shiner in breeding colors

Chris well done. I was sort of going for a green X bluegill, it might even be an F2. :) I wasn't too worried about species since there is so much variation.
Yeah hybrids in sunfish are fun. There is a lake in MN where I bass fish that has some natural pumpkinseed X green crosses, lots of big pure pumpkinseeds too. I think I have some pictures of them, maybe my next hybrid. We usually catch one or two on spinnerbaits or topwater each time out. They are very aggressive.

Your last line really struck me funny. I was just thinking that I need to get another aquarium to do a native minnow tank. Can't really keep any gamefish in one here and the state is getting touchy about even letting us catch bait with those flying carp showing up all over. I better get one going before it's too had to have some.

im pretty sure carp are minnows(ct is pretty touchy about carp, too), but there are some amazing species when you acutally get outside the game fish circle. testlelated darters and sculpins are just beautiful. but a big bull golden shiner is probably my favorite a foot long golden is an awesome sight.

bowfin are awesome too its like taking a look back into history.

the trout guys get anoyed when they see fall fish but i would rather catch a big native fall fish than a stocked brown. also dont tell a trout biologist that you like cormorants, their heart stops beating and they get twitchy
