Spring Turkey

Henrick,
Losing a bird sucks but anyone who has hunted turkey for any length of time has a story of the one that got away. The first Merriam that I ever shot was never recovered though we searched high and low for several hours. It was definitely a low point after two years of trying to tag a turkey in the Black Hills but it certainly made our success the following year that much sweeter. Hang in there!

We had a dozen Poults in our yard the other day and I nearly wrapped a tom around my bumper this morning. That sucker has been dodging vehicles out here by the orchards for a spell.

It is funny, out here you can kill a critter with your car and get a salvage tag after the incident, take it home to throw its remains in the freezer, but you aren't allowed to use an air gun or a blowgun/slingshot or a bird dog to take em down. Only archery/ scattergun, and none without a tag in hand.
