Whats on the workbench in June?

Slow slow slow at the Brenner bench. Luckily I got some spam and it called me back for a look at all the great work you guys are doing!

a do it yourself bird with common garage tools bird made out of lumberyard wood. I used ronans but flat rustoleums would work the same. shot a bunch of photos of construction and stages to write and article for my buddies magazine. nothing fancy but a dozen of these would kill some birds

hey, try just a little whitish--with raw umber in it--line under the eye--Really tends to set off and create a positive contrast between the head and eye.
Stay busy

ML Bob,

Great heads!! what are they attached to? Cypress Knees?? I;m always looking for some different ways to utilize the heads I make. What wood are they attached to, and are these for use or decorative. Sorry, if these are "dumb" questions, but I am relatively new to the site.

Thanks,

Art

Am sure. Mr furia will get back to you as he is very helpful chap he has been putting up with my questions for the last few years. I think it would be palm fond.

George was the comment about the White umber wash ment for me ?

Paul, yes. Suggestion for contrast only. I found that little eye line sets off the eyes from the head pretty well.

Tony, the shape is nice and chunky--Photo may be faded due to sunlight--if not, theback and sides need to go greyer-If you have a body, look at it-You might also want to look at the end of bill. From specimens i have, the black goes backfurther. On second thought, keel them, gun them and enjoy the experience when youhave some of the live things over the dekes, ready to come home for dinner!
Keep at it! Nice, resting heads.

If you did them in acrylics, try a wash of raw umber on all but the head-i have a painting schedule for the redhead--fairly uncomplicated, and if you want me to send it to you, e mail me at gwdecoys@verizon.net
This is actually one of many chapters of a yet completed book on painting HUNTING DECOYS--basically, over the years, when folks contact me for color schemes, i would write all this stuff, send and then delete---A few years back, i started saving in a file, thanks to some friends who coached me on the nuances of the computer--Now, i am even retrofitting e mail files back to word documents. Perhaps, one day, there will be a book, which now includes four species of argentine ducks.. Until then, if people ask, i just send the info off---The main caveat is that you SHOULD have specimens available, preferably frozen..I take them out of the freezer when painting, so that i have a source to work from--Photos are just super, except they are expressions of the photographer's aesthetics with the prevailing light source.
Drop a note and i will get it off to you.
