What's on your Workbench - APRIL 2023

A lot of amazing & impressive work posted so far this month by all of you. Very inspiring! Here's what I've been working on for a couple of weeks... just finished it today.
Oil on linen 14 x 20 inches.

Tom,

That's one mighty fine oil painting, just enough of everything. Now yer eyeballs can get a short rest. [wink]

Best regards
Vince

Wonderful, Tom!

I can't quite be sure how many Mallards and/or Black will be surprised around the next bend - but I know they are there....

All the best,

SJS

Thanks a lot for all the positive feedback!
I find it helpful to see what others here are working on - helps keep the momentum going. Thanks.

"Taking a break" from work this weekend to repair the horsehair plaster on a ceiling in our house... not a bad job, and a nice change of pace.

Good morning, All~

More prodigious production From the bench of George Williams:

G Williams - GWT 1.jpg

George rigs his stool a bit tighter than I would.... I'm thinking he should spread 'em out a bit more....although he does manage that classic horse-shoe shape - telling the new birds precisely where to land!

My "bench" is out-of-control. My efforts to ease out of the gunning decoy rehab line have failed miserably this year. I have been surrounded by scores of decoys - from several different rigs - in recent weeks. And, progress is slow because of competing demands from Spring on the Farm + several gunning boats + some really neat duckboat history. (A separate post for the last item.)

Here's the Floor - yesterday morning...

A couple of Benches....sorry for the poor focus....

And there's always something cooking on the hearth.....

Back to work!

With the Morgan lock corner machine back in action it comes as no surprise wood boxes are becoming a common site in my shop. Cranked these out over the past two weeks.

Good morning, Eric~

Wonderful work - of course!

I'm thinking, though, that you need to ask your staff in the Art Department to gin up more elaborate labels.....

Wooden crates with artwork.jpg

I'm thinking Old School fonts....and maybe a time-tested image of a duckboat.....??????

All the best,

SJS

Steve

I love the old crate art. Military font stencils are the zenith of my artwork. Seriously, I have started looking at laser engravers. I could make my own stencils and paint boxes similar to the picture you posted.

Thanks.

Eric

I didn't make them to stack like milk crates, but that's a good thought. They go on shelves are were sized accordingly.

Brandon~

Yes - those 3 Blacks in the foreground are your Chesapeakes. They are about half-way done. They got their oil base coats and latex topcoats - but still need those all-important (to me, if not to the ducks) finishing touches on their faces and backs.

The past few days have been all "outside work" - mowing, planting and even taking care of the Pencil Brook "Marina" - all the vessels that belong to either customers (in the queue) or my own fleet. Most of my vessels cannot get my attentions 'til next Fiscal Year, but still need to be carefully stored. I just scrubbed my Rhodes 19 - which I hope to sail on Lake Champlain in the Summer of '24 - and a nice old cedar Sneakbox that needs to be moved out of one of Susan's border gardens. Both need new tarps. Last month's very heavy snowfall took its toll on hundreds of big limbs - and several big trees - all around the farm, but also ruined some of my storage tarps. The rain just chased me inside.

No shortage of chores hereabouts - but it's all good.

All the best,

SJS
