    Late season goose hunt...

LOL-- Thanks Al, I've gotten one of those in 27yrs of gunning. Everytime I loose a bird I think it's banded. My buddy found a double banded goose in the marsh decomoposed. He's lucky that way. I just find swans with neck collars and Tarsel bands. I wait till the thaw and look for white lumps...

    Late season goose hunt...

Scott, Yeah it's the last day tomorrow. It went fast (just like last year). I never did the ice fishing thing before, looks fun but I freak when I hear those cracking sounds. I'll wait for the thaw-- love the taste of yellow perch. -Jack Here's Chance bringing one in, the tide was way high...

    Late season goose hunt...

I took an opportunity to hunt the north shore yesterday. Winds were more than I wshed for but my buddy and I toughed it out and were blessed with a few flights that made the guns roar. Goose hunting over water is tough hunting, the first pair that locked up into the spread was deceiving to...

    One more introduction

Pleasure to have you join this site. When I saw the name, I immediatly thought pro decoy carver, couldn't be the same one? It's nice to visit this site, the quality of the forum and its members have been exceptional since Eric started. It's great to see it's still growing in popularity...

    Kodiak likes snow

Wow-- appropriate name! That's a big dog, he doesn't even need snow shoes. When it snowed 2 feet out here, Chance looked at me kind of gave me the expression "I ain't shoveling" He eventually warmed up to the snow with my kids throwing snowballs and he's trying to find them.

Ten days left for ducks, & F5 buried in snows

Todd-- Thanks for the kind words---your photos are spectacular. Pete-- It was a good hunt--- wish I had more this season but still blessed and happy. Phil-- Thanks, I had this lady tell me she'd take him home any day. I told her it's a package deal ;0) Tom-- I just took a Chance...

Ten days left for ducks, & F5 buried in snows

You'd take out too many decoys that way... I waited too long on a canada goose hunt with a flight that was just over the spread (5 yards away less than a foot off the ground) and rocked my friends brand new rig that I borrowed, it became an expensive hunt. Remember you're not jumping up, you are...

Ten days left for ducks, & F5 buried in snows

It's been a little slow around my area so I purchased the F5 DVD from Habitat Flats (Thanks Ira) It was what I needed to get motivated. Watching that video made me feel like a lightweight. Inspired to hunt ducks again (no snow geese where I live) I recommend this video for those who think they...

suggestions on open water set up

Brian, Not too many Broadbill, most I see in our area are buffle head and mergansers. I went out last saturday for bills, few to none to be found. I like long line setup with 2-3 foot droppers. I clip (big clips see Steve Suttons post below) all my long lines together in a 5 gallon bucket...

DVD recommendation: F5 Buried in Snows

Jay, Thanks for the review, I like going to their site every now and then thinking I need to move. I'll look for that dvd, things slowed down in my stomping area would like a good hunting video to watch when it gets slow. -Jack

new years diatribe (and a few good photos after the words)

"It would seem as though Kodi prefers Mallard" That cracked me up, I'm with Kodi-- I can't get a buffy to taste good. They are fun to hunt!!

    WISPETE-- Mustang Classic Bomber Jacket

I went with Olive Drab Green, without solas reflectors. I remember mustang making a camoflauge version of the bomber jacket, but it's discontinued. I think you could special order it though from them. I like the length of the bomber instead of the jacket. Never interfered with sitting and...

    WISPETE-- Mustang Classic Bomber Jacket

I got to hunt 4 out of 5 days with the Classic Bomber Jacket. I mentioned that my first impression was that I felt a like a stuffed sausage but I did get use to the jacket. I'm 6' 2" 235 Lbs (on a good scale). I went out a couple of days with highs of 28 and flood tides, wading in a honey hole...

Traveling Black decoy hits the intercoastal flats...

I don't know how you do it but you definitely have an eye for photography, and capturing a moment. As always a pleasure to see awsome pics. My favorite is the kids and dog photo, and second is the fish hawk (osprey?) where you can see scales of the fish falling off. Have a Happy New Year.

Western NY Second Season - 2nd day - Heavy Straps

Nick, From that smile, it doesn't look like the finger was your trigger finger. Hope its healed up for your next hunt. Nice report, good to hear you stuck it out. -Jack

Keeping your head above the water line.

No problem Pete. My first try with the jacket may be this weekend, but my first impression was I felt like a stuffed sausage in it- and that was the xlarge. Jack

Keeping your head above the water line.

I've been waiting, like some of you, for the birds to show up but got tired of waiting and headed out. Prior to getting hammered with 2 feet of snow, I took an invite to hunt with a close friend out of his blind. It was cold, tide low, winds gusting and sunny skies. We had a great time catching...

First good duck hunt of the season

Where do I start .... shooting dumb ducks ... I was waiting for those (can you scare them this way?) "This started a bit of a disagreement between Marsh and I He focused on the departing ducks and didn't mark the duck fall to the outside. He didn't want to take the blind out across the ice...
