I run a bass boat regularly in some pretty nasty stuff. I hit logs and some rocks and believe stainless is the only way to go. They are much more durable and are repairable at $150 for a 25" prop on a 200hp which isn't needed very often. I don't even know if they can repair aluminum economically.

Dave, what do you plan on using for the wood skin on the boat. I have toyed with building one of these "on the cheap" but get hung up on using luan like products on the skin. By the way, the frame looks great.

One of the first things I would do is grade the exterior to allow for proper drainage away from the structure. In your photo it appears to sit level or down hill from the surrounding grade. I have woked on several older barns in much worse condition and proper grading could have prevented alot...

I think the no sag low viscosity epoxy with micro balloons would be a better choice than a typical wood filler due to the bonding capability of the epoxy in the low spots and holes. I think I would "slather" on a layer over the entire hull and then sand to fair.

Definately epoxy. Until you use the stuff you cant understand the capabilities and strength. As far a cypress goes, I believe it has alot of natural oils which inhibits glue bonding properties. Some others may have more info but I think I recall you have to wipe it down with some type of...

Larry, I hunt the same waters you do in a Scaup I built a couple of years ago with 3/8 BS1088 Ocume. I believe the unsupported SQFT of plywood in this stitch and glue is larger than that of the boat your building. If I were to build a smaller "one man" boat I would go with the lighter wood...
