    Jersey A Week

Congrats Jode. I was able to get out Saturday to hunt a farm I have never hunted before. I scouted and roosted some birds on Thursday since I wasn't going to have time Friday. Saturday morning was hot and humid and I was dreading the onslaught of mosquitoes and gnats. I made the trek down the...

    first teal

Saw a flock of about 20 blue or green wings about two weeks ago right before sundown. Also saw a single black earlier that day. Was on the Delaware bay side. Will hopefully get out for some residents this holiday weekend if its not brutally hot.

    Jersey Turkey Opener

Congrats Jode. It was absolutely perfect weather yesterday morning and I was stuck at work. I can't wait until Saturday! I see birds strutting and fighting everywhere right now.

    The root of your obsession...

Watching Chad Belding for the first time. Aspired to be just like him. J/K ... Had access to a field that geese wanted to be in. It was all over for me when they cupped, back peddled and landed just feet from me.

    Woodcock hunting is fuuuuun! LONG

Thanks for sharing Dani. I love woodcock hunting as well. The warm weather this year made my season a little slow for the first split, I spent a lot of time finding new spots since my usual ones were not producing. Deer hunters think they own the woods around here too. They think your an...

    Banded Birds

On a 2011 goose hunt we got both, an old one and one that traveled quite a ways. One was banded in Greenland in 2009, it had a plastic neck band, leg band and metal leg band. The other (HUGE) goose came in as we were picking up decoys. He was from NY, but was banded in 1998 as an adult. So he...

Upland only---no ducks harmed in this post

"Today was one of those rare days I won't soon forget...the day my dog grew up and hunted better then I thought he could." Watching the light bulb turn on for them is the best part, especially when you can pinpoint the hunt it happened. For my pup, it was the very last day of woodcock season...

Who had their opener this morning???

I usually goose hunt and the occasional walk in spot on the marsh where I get into teal and black ducks. I never hunted wood ducks before, but last week I scouted a small pond I found last year woodcock hunting. I was pumped that the dogs bumped about a dozen off the water. Setup in the...

    LAYOUT BLIND

Check out Avery's power hunter. It folds up smaller than the boxier blinds and I think it hides better since its so low profile, especially if you take the support beam out of the lid. But the blind is not at comfortable as the bigger blinds, as everything is laying on you like a sleeping bag.

    nut grass wanted

The refuge forum has a Habitat sub-forum that has a good amount of information and some knowledgeable people posting there. Might have to go back a few pages, but there were some good discussions about nut grass and other tuber plants.

    Snipe hunt

I absolutely love woodcock hunting, but have never encountered any snipe (at lease I don' think so). Are you able to tell the difference between the two on wing? Do snipe make the same sound as a woodcock when taking flight? Can't wait for our woodcock season to open.

Some Western Maine Beauty and one southern rooster, NDR

Beautiful pics. I hunted up in the Rangely area a couple years back. Can't wait to go again as I plan on making it back there next October with more dog power this time!

A full weeked for the pup (LOOOONG)

Congrats! I would be very proud also of the way the pup handled a running rooster and especially the fighting wounded goose. That may be attributed to him actually being a GSP though! JK Good looking dog.
