    NDR: First time fly fishing...

Decoy and gun shows are a good source for used flyfishing equipment. I personally like wood decoys and wood fly rods and have a number of them, paying the average price of $100. Check ferrules and guides closely for hairline cracks and that the rod is good general shape. Also reels can...

    Michigan Sneak Boat Shooting...

Pat, way to stoke the fire! I'm three weeks out of my visit to the Lake Erie Metro Park Museum in Monroe Michigan. Can't wait to see the 18' Dan Kidney Sneakboat made in Green Bay. Please bring the Struebing can decoy with you on your next visit. A stool of those would keep me up nights!

    Climate Change vs. Waterfowl Migration

Even though I am not the Mike in question, my guess is "peer review process" is where one person lies and the rest swear to it. (hehe) You guys are way to serious for simple duck hunters!

To Pod or not to Pod...That is the Question

Interesting, that it didn't make a difference on your water line. I talked with a Mississippi guide and he said it brought the backend of his 24' boat up 4 inches when fully loaded with customers. I have a 19' full vee boat I wanted to add them on, but opted out for an 8hp kicker. I...

    Professional Decoy Carvers

Jode, Sean, and Kieth are all very talented, but don't discount the amateurs like the Ward Brothers, Madison Mitchell, Joe Lincoln and just about every other historic maker.

    decline in Gray's Sporting Journal

Gray's has never been the same since Bobby Lee and Hiram left. Shooting Sportsman hit some anniversary (maybe 50th), and has been reprinting some of the best of their short stories from over that time span. Not many contemporary "hook and bullet" writers can compare to the ones we've lost.

    ???What double barrel to buy???

Gauge Mate, 800-709-9910, has both the temporary and semi-permanent chamber reducers, that are reasonably priced, so any 10ga can be reduced to a nice heavy 12 gauge waterfowl gun. Having kept my chokes below .017 (lite mod), I have shot steel shot out of several English guns and a number of...

    duck hunting stories and journalism....

Mike, check out, "Four Shots", in the November/December issue of Shooting Sportsman. Best skiff story I have read in a long time. This story will hit close to home to all those who try to find solitude while hunting.

Pat Gregory Ruddy on a calm day

Pat, you must be the last man standing that would hunt one of Madison's decoys...especially cork, which in my opinion was his best work.

What companies make hats out of your own tanned furs???

Sent six prime Wisconsin muskrat pelts, skinned out, to Gorlics Trading Inc., Warwick, N.Y. and they made me a hat that retailed for $400, but by providing my own fur, cost me only $80. This was a dozen or more years ago. I was wearing the hat today actually. It wears like iron for hunting...

    Buoy decoys

I purchased 80 coot decoys made out of buoys. After the purchase, I noticed there were no weights on any of the decoys. The guy who made them, said he needed no weight for them to float upright. I didn't believe they could ride out a 2-3 wave so I tested them. UNBELIEVABLE...they self right...
