    Delaware Duck "hunter" arrested

Isn't there a separation of church and state issue with Sunday closures? I know it might add to the length of your seasons but it is no small coincident that its Sunday that they chose to close. I grew up in a religion were Saturday hunting was not really a option so this law would have...

Young dog will not pick up a duck

Unfortunately that is why you have to force break labs. I think you can thank the field trial breeds for that. Just no need for natural retrieving ability or a decent nose when you can control them like a robot and force them to retrieve using pain. I am only half serious but... that is my take...

    Question on decoy placement

Duck very often land on the outside edge or in the pocket in my decoys spreads. So i put the farthest decoys about 20 yards and the pocket is 5-10 yards. Either way the birds are trying to land within about 20 yards tops for me. That is the goal atleast. Chris

What size shotgun shells do you use?

After seeing post of guys killing ducks clean with very small shot i had to give it a try. I have been shooting 2 3/4 loads in 4's and 6's out of a improved cylinder. The 4's are the 1550 fps varity and the 6's are the 1oz 1350 fps light game loads. This weekend i shot only the slow 6's and...

    New boat and morning hunt

Thanks for all the comments. The spaniel is doing really well for a 2 year dog that has such a poor trainer. I tend to train in the field while we are working. He does everything i need from flushing rabbit and fowl for the hawks/guns to retrieving. He is also very steady in a small boat which...

long line clips and tarred line

Just as a update i went with SNL decoy rigs for all my puddlers rigged in the "texas rig" style. Got to say i love this set up, very fast and no tangles. I am also using the 400lb mono for my diver droppers. I also ordered 5" clips with no swivel from SNL partly due to the fact that when i...

    New boat and morning hunt

Got this boat a month or so ago. Its marked Oregon Osprey Feather made in Corvallis, Oregon. I have tried to find some info on it but haven't had much luck. It measures 13 feet and about 42'' wide, very stable and tracks well. The guy i got it from said he got it about 20 years ago. Three of...

    Muck Boots?

I really like the muck style boots myself i wear them 6 months out of the year for all my rabbit, snipe, and jump shooting. I even like them more if you get them large enough to fit over your stocking foot waders. They make a nice secure fit and the uppers act like a gator(sp?) to keep mud and...

long line clips and tarred line

Thanks for all the reply's. I was actually looking at getting my clips at SNL along with the "texas rig" dropper lines for my puddle ducks and droppers for my long lines. As for a source for tarred line i have only found it in 2lb or less spools and thats not very much line. I will check out the...

long line clips and tarred line

I am looking at buying some long line clips and have the option of swivel or no swivel. How important are swivels on the clip? I also am thinking of making my own tarred lines. I can get 100 feet pieces of braided 3/16 rope, I know some people like 1/4 or even 5/16 but would the 3/16 work...

what kind of regulations make you crazy when duckin

I have two complaints where i live. First is the completely unclear stance the state takes on navigable water ways and what is legal or not. Even in the regulations the state goes as far as saying what they think "MIGHT" be legal but you still have to proceed at your own risk because they cant...

    How thinghs change....

We have a urban sprawl problem here but almost as bad is the restoration of wetlands and prairies. With the help of state and federal money and sometimes along with DU they improve the habitat then lock it up tight for everything but bird watchers and walkers. Most of the local ground that was...

Clams on the halfshell anyone.....or maybe a broken windshield....

The funniest thing i have seen when gulls are dropping snails here. It when a gull goes up 20 odd feet into the air then plummets to the ground snail in beak to fearful to drop it because the chance of losing it only to drop it less then a foot from the ground. Not very effective to say the...

    Are you kiddin me ??

With the modern day elimination of nest protecting quality habitat and the unnatural balance of fewer large predators replaced by smaller nest robbing, hen killing predators. I find it hard to believe that waterfowlers would be less then supportive of people that actively are involved in...

Springer Spaniel needs a good home

I can not argue the fact that this dog might be papered. But being a spaniel guy I can tell you this dog is so completely wrong as a ESS. The color is 100% wrong for show or field breeding. The coat is also completely wrong, the legs being the most incorrect. Show spaniels will have much fuller...

    Helping friends build boats....

http://duckboats.net.nmsrv.com/specs/marsh.html has some info on the robber. Not to hijack your thread but could someone that has made the robber give some idea of safe max weight load for this design. The duck boat specs list the hummer at 400lbs but I am wondering what do you lose shortening...

    My Mistake

Brad I think you managed to prove the point with that picture why there are very few ducks here in western, oregon. They are all held up in washington and on the columbia. All season we here have been waiting for a big storm or freeze north of us to push the birds from your picture south to us...
